St. Patrick Day 2003

"Floss 'N Gloss" was busy again prior to the third annual FNG participation of the "St. Patrick Day Parade" in Muncie, IN. To anyone who was there, it started at Muncie Central High School parking lot and traveled numerous blocks while being flanked by thousands of patrons showing support.
This years parade was on March 15th, 2003. It was scheduled for the Saturday before the actual holiday, which allowed most families the experience of the festivities. And there was a wonderful turnout.
There was more to do this year. There was scheduled to be fifteen vehicles in the parade, and in the last week of preparations there was quite a few member who had to bow out due to prior obligations. Even on the morning of the event there was three cancelations/no shows and so the end result was a total of five vehicles and thirteen individuals participating in the parade itself.
Two years ago, the only representation of the club was via the President and a Vice President who were in Roy's Camaro(president).
Last year the lineup was planned to include almost a dozen customized rides, but last minute drops cut the total to half that. Optimistically and realistically it was obvious to see a nice improvement on the previous years representation.
This year was even bigger than last years and that is the goal to our club. We want every year to grow in representation, in quality, in exhibition, and in fun.
To give you an idea of what it takes to prepare and get it all ready for the parade...here's a timeline of what the President did on March 15th. Roy had to work, the night before the parade, again this year. So he went into work at 10pm and got off his graveyard shift at 6:30am. He had numberous people to contact last minute and tried to get everything set up in a couple hours. Then took a quick shower and got some last minute decorations and candy for the ride to look its best for the parade. After those errunds were ran, he drove all over town to pick up everyone who was participating and met up with the rest. Then they went to the Central High School parking lot...where we would begin the parade from. We were requested to be at that location by 9 am(even though the parade didn't officially start until 11am and judging didn't start until 10am). Then roy left and washed his car and then came back and placed the decorations on his vehicle, placed everyone in their proper places for the parade, and otherwise got the smaller details worked out before the parade started at 11am.
This was made easier by all of the participants being there ontime and putting decorations on thier own vehicles and everyone just being co-operative with each other to make everything go much smoother.
This years parade had five vehicles and a total of thirteen participants. Below is a list of the order the vehicles were in:
Roy Davis and Adam were first in Roy's 1995 Camaro. They were tossing candy out to the crowd while playing music at 147 db's.
Second in the lineup was Michelle Sheppard. She was in her 1993 Caddy. She was joined by her friend mellia, amd Michelle's children Zack and Tyler. They all tossed out candy and wished everyone a "Happy St. Patrick Day".
Next in line was Mark Schatzer. He joined the club on the day of the parade. He was in his customized 2002 Neon and was joined by his friend Blake.
Then there was Boo. He was in the parade last year with his own S10, but he was getting the paint changed to another color so he drove his brother's GMC 1500. He was joined by Scott Crouse. Scott was supposed to be in his cousins Blazzer but was unable to get it for this years parade, so he rode with Boo.
And in the last spot was Will Said. His 2002 Dodge Neon R/T was only TWO months old for last years parade and has started to make a major evolution in appearance, and the crowd took notice. Will was joined by his father and son Billy who tossed out candy and waved to the crowd. This was the second strait year that the Neon was in the parade.
Braging rights...."FNG" was AGAIN the only car club in representation at the parade.
"FNG" has grown considerably in the last two years and will be much larger in 2004. Keep an eye out for the us...you will be surprised in our progress.
A big THANK YOU goes to Ervin Davis and the Morningside Crime Watch who funded a great deal for the parade. Mark Rye, a manager at Fazoli's agreed to give everyone in our group a free drink. Also, Roys family as well as everyone else who participated in, supported, and helped make the St. Patrick Day Parade what it was.....THANK YOU!
After the parade was over, we went to Fazoli's and got something to eat. The members that stuck around after that rolled through Ball St. and then over to the local pool hall for some games. After all that we all went our own ways and then met back up cruised New Castle. The whole day was packed with events that kept us all busy and satisfied in the end.
