Nintendo means something like "The heaven blesses hard work". Nintendo was
founded in Kyoto, Japan, 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. Until the 1960's the
company mostly made gambling cards, and eventually developed electronic
toys, which eventually led to the Nintendo Entertainment System.
In Japan, 1983, Nintendo introduced an 8-bit videogame called the Family
Computer (Famicom). It quickly became a big success. In a few years, Nintendo
sold 15 million consoles and over 150 million games. The same system was
released in USA 1985 and Europe 1986. In Europe and USA it was called the
Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).More than 50 million consoles and 350 million games has been sold since 1983! The NES is known for a lot of great games like: The Super Mario series, the Zelda series and the Mega-Man Series.
Introduction of the 16-bit Super Nintendo System (SNES) in 1991, the world
began to show less interest for the 8-bit NES system. In 1994 Nintendo
officialy announced that they no longer would support the NES system.(boo hoo).
The NES dident die that fast in Europe and few NES games were released in
1995. The Famicom is "Still going strong" in Asia. Unlicensed/Pirate
companies have taken over the units and releases Famicom Disk System games
on cartridges and converts SNES titles such as Street Fighter 2 and
Super Mario World to the Famicom, of course with reduced graphics and sound.
With the NES retired, Nintendo knew that they needed to be ahead of the game,Thus the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment) was born. The successor to the extraordinarily popular Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). This had double the graphic capability of NES. the SNES had a 16-bit processor while the NES had an 8-bit processor. This made games and the whole video game entertainment more involved for the player. The graphics (at the time) were state of the art.
The original SNES set, with two controllers and Super Mario World, sold for $200 when it was first released. Within months the price dropped, as all console systems' prices do after initial release, to $150. The new, redesigned SNES set goes for $99.You can probably find it in stores for at least $30, including games and 2 controllers. If your really desperate there is always Ebay.
There were many different game developers on board at the time of the release of both classic consoles. a large majority of these companies are still around and very successful,(thanks in big part to the initial popularity of the NES and the SNES.). Some of these companies include, Konami (Castlevania, Metal Gear) Capcom (Street Fighter, Megaman) and Square (Final Fantasy 1,2).
Among the Next-gen consoles coming out, Nintendo is the only company (in my opinion) that has truly stuck to its deep, vast gaming roots. With classic games still being played on the Gamecube by todays generations of gamers. Games Like the long running Legend of Zelda series, and the Final Fantasy series is quite possibly (HANDS-DOWN) the single most greatest, Long running RPG series to date. There is also Super Mario, the loveable goomba killing master of video games. Sadly the Mario games have decreased dramatically in fun and the overall Mario feel. There is also one other classic, Metroid, the most badass Female Video game Character. Lara Croft has nothing on Samus Aran......GOTTA KILL MOTHER BRAIN.
Whether you agree with me or not.
CASE AND POINT: Nintendo Kicked ass then and they've still got it!!!!!!!!!
OH YEA- one more thing, X-box is the worst Next-Gen console ever....no wait worst console in the world. Nothing can beat how awful microsoft and x-box really are. If your gonna have the best graphics, you might want to to have at least a few decent games to back that up... YOU SUCK X-BOX plain and simple!!!!!!!!!!!
