Kids Pictures

Here are more drawings done by the kids of Sarajevo. For me,this drawing on the left is a perfect illustration of how it must of felt to live in Sarajevo during the war. The city is surrounded by beautiful hills and during the war it was these beautiful hills that kept the people of Sarajevo trapped for more than three years.

The red dots seemed to be a theme echoed through the work of the children of Sarajevo. Two different children did these drawings. Yet they are so similiar. One said "they are flowers", but if you look closly you can see where she drew the red flowers and they look very different than the red dots scattered everywhere. For me the red dots are a reminder of the fear these children live with everyday. Not just in the fact that land mines are in the hills around them. But the fear that peace is uncertain.

The picture on the left is probably one of my favorite pictures. It says so much to me. So many emotions in one simple drawing. The drawing on the right repeates the childrens fear of feeling unsafe, across the bottom, the word 'mines' is written over and over.

I would like to take a little space to thank all the peolpe who made this trip possible for me. And there is just not enough space to thank everyone. To my family and friends-for without their emotional and finacial support this trip would never of been possible for me. To the ArtReach team members who gave me friendship and support I am grateful. And expecially to the people of Sarajevo who opened their hearts and homes to me during my stay I am truly thankful and I can only hope I was able to give to you half as much as you gave to me. Thank you everyone. In hopes of Peace--Wendy
