It represents their world-veiw, centered on self, family and moving out to community, country, and world. The word 'mir' means mines. This student's hope for the future is that all the world's problems will be swept away. Click on this drawing to see more drawings by students.

There are constant reminders of the atroscities the people faced, and the cemetaries fill public parks and almost any available space. Everyone you meet lost somone in the war.

These postcards of Sarajevo are a little disturbing. On the outskirts of town there are still many ruined apartment buildings like the ones on the left. Amazingly, where there are livable spaces, people will move back into these structures. The one on the right is the old library, which burned when mortars ignited the books inside.

The Bosnian artist Nusret Pasic took these burned books and made them into artworks. The series is called 'The Sarajevo Library- History of the World'.
