Titus


The third of the pastoral epistles.

Written by Paul about 64 A.D. probably from Macedonia. Most likely before II Timothy. Titus was a Gentile by birth. (Gal. 2:3) and was converted by Paul. 1:4 He was with Paul and Barnabas at Jerusalem. (Gal. 2:1) Afterward he was sent on important missions by Paul.

    10. Lovers of good men (of all that is good)
    11. Sober minded.
    12. Just toward fellowmen.
    13. Holy toward God.
    14. Temperate

    1. Liars always.
    2. Evil beasts (brutal)
    3. Idle gluttons - indolent through pampering.

    Paul instructs Titus to rebuke them sharply so as to reclaim them from following after Jewish fables, commandments of man.

        • sober sound in the faith.
        • Dignified sound in charity.
        • Temperate sound in patience.
      2. Women. 2:3
        • Not false accusers (slanderers)
        • Not given to much wine.
        • Teachers of good things.
    2. The young. 2:4-6
      1. Women.
        • Sober (self-restrained)
        • Love their husbands.
        • Love their children.
        • Discreet.
        • Chaste.
        • Keepers at home.
        • Good. (kind)
        • Obedient to their husbands.
      2. Men.

      3. Likewise, sober minded.
    3. Ministers. 2:7,8

    4. Patterns to all
      • In uncorruptness of teaching.
      • Dignified (serious mindedness)
      • Sincere
      • Sound speech

      • That they cannot be condemned.
    5. Servants. 2:9,10
      • Obedient to masters.
      • To please the master well in all things.
      • Not answer back in contradiction.
      • Not purloining.
    6. The whole teaching enforced by the doctrine of the Lord's Return. 2:11-15
  7. Obedience to Rulers enjoined. 3:1
  8. Peaceable and Gentle Behaviour toward all men. 3:2
  9. Remembrance to former sinfulness and present salvation through the free grace of God. 3:3-7
  10. The maintaniance of good works a pressing obligation. 3:8
  11. Behaviour toward certain errorists and heretics. 3:9-11
  12. Personal matters and salutations. 3:12-15
