                Viktor Tikhonov

Viktor Tikhonov was successor to Antoliy Tarasov as head coach of the CCCP national team. He got this job by getting Dinamo Riga from 3rd division into premier. Tikhonov was very different from Tarasov. His main word was "discipline." He pushed everything he could from his players. Born in 1930, he won Olympic Silver in 1980 and Gold in 84, 88, and 92. Because Tikhonov was so strict, he became very unpopular. Some players accused him of trying to keep them from going to the U.S. However, Tikhonov was only following orders from officials: Nothing less than Success.
