Posted 7/3 - Coach Buckley has completed the coaching staff and things are shaping up for the team. Summer camps are in full swing and the players are excited about Coach Buckley and next season. Conditioning will be coming up in a few months and things will finally get rolling again on the Ball State campus for the 2000-2001 season. .....from S.G.S.

Posted 6/26 - Inside reports say that Coach Buckley has named Angres Thorpe of Lewis University as an assistant. He will join Scott Bunnell and former Wisconsin player Tracy Webster on Buckley's staff. .....form A.T.

Posted 5/17 - Tim Buckley is our new man folks. A press conference at 10 a.m. notified us of this decision. Hopefully the guys can trust Buckley since they have previous experience with him. Now we just have to put this puzzle back together and finish what we started at the end of last season......from S.G.S.

Posted 5/17 - Did BSU make the right decision? Did Seger go for Buckley because she feared lossing half the guys. Maybe she should have went with a national champion in Stan Heath and thought of the future. I guess the results will be conclusive after next season. I'll be very interested in the results, I hope other Cardinal basketball fans will be too......from Jack093

Posted 5/6 - Well folks we are down to three. Buckley, Heath and the cat from Ohio State have been interviewed by Seger off campus. Word has it that Stan Heath might just be the next Cardinal coach. Stay tuned. .....from A.T.

Posted 4/25 - Cam Stephens signed with UNC-Charlotte. Also, word is, Fort Wayne Fury head coach Keith Smart has throwing his name into the BSU vancancy, Smart's contract with the Fury is up and according to sources close to the program he REALLY wants the job. .....from A.T.

Posted 4/20 - Cam Stephens is gone too. The forward backed out of his trip to BSU and instead opted to take a visit to . . . you guessed it . . . Houston. .....from A.T. again

Posted 4/20 - For those of you who were hoping assistant coach Fitzpatrick would be the new head coach, wait no more. . . he is leaving for Houston also. I hope the frontrunner for the job is Matthews. He has done well at Manchester and has a good eye for talent. It may be time for a new alum to take over. .....from A.T.

Posted 4/20 - What's up Cardinal's Nest! I think the situation at BSU is very interesting, a guy who leaves his alma mater and hometown for a higher paying position. It's unimaginable! Frontrunners for the position are skeptical right now. Fitz has his name in the mix , but other than that the entire idea is up in the air. Fitz would fit well with the team. He's a coach that knows the guys well. A brand new coach will throw off the team chemistry. Those guys have worked hard, now they have to face a dificult task. .....from Joey Rivers

Posted 4/20 - Jamie Matthews would be a perfect fit. He has a great mind for the game as well as the ability to recruit. He was able to land an Indiana All Star at Manchester with no scholarships. His record in two years is 42-14 and his teams have a toughness......from Doug Shoemaker

Posted 4/20 - Jeepers, I hope the team will not abandon ship at the first sign of trouble. I'm hoping that calmer heads will prevail once the shock wears off. Several of our young players are experiencing success. Do they really want to sit out a year and start all over in a new media market? We have a genuine opportunity on our hands. The team is loaded with talent right now. Ray was not a very strong tactician. If we get a good tactician, the sky s the limit with this group!.....J. Burton

Posted 4/19 - Ray signed a reported 5-year contract worth (plus incentives ie. shoe , radio-tv deals) $2-mill. Also, assistants Scott Bunnell and Jerry Francis both have accepted similart postions on the Houston staff. Could this mean Tee is leaving next......from A.T.

Posted 4/19 - Now that it's offical. The 'Cardinals Nest' has decided to open up discussion on possible successors to Ray. You can click on the e-mail the 'Cardianls Nest' icon below the postings to send me your ideas. Thanks......from A.T.

Posted 4/19 - It's offical. Ray is leaving. He took the job at Houston, bummer......from A.T.

Posted 4/19 - I just saw on the AP news wire that Ray has not accepted the job and that he is still only a possiblity. Seger told the Indy Star that she has spoken to Ray and that he would "mull over the decision". According to a statement from Houston's A.D. Ray is only a candidate and that the job is still open. Houston has said that they would make a decision on Thursday, but we may now earlier than that on Ray's choice......from A.T.

Posted 4/18 - This Ray McCallum talk certainly throws many interesting possibilities into the mix. What about the expected visit of Cameron Stephens on Friday the 21st? What will the kid think of the program now?.....from unknown

Posted 4/18 - Reports say that Ray McCallum has taken the opening as Houston's head coach. The position will likely pay McCallum a huge six figure salary ($400,000 + endorsements). Confidential sources say that McCallum asked assistants Jerry Francis and Scott Bunnell if they would be ready to go by next Thursday. Meaning Ray has asked them to make the job move with him. The same source reports that MAC Freshman of the Year, Theron Smith is may make the trip to UH with Bunnell. Bunnell brought Smith to Ball State so it might be in the cards (no pun intended) that Smith might go with the staff. Other rumors have Fitzpatrick taking over the ranks here in Cardinal territory, with everything functioning at the same pace, just minus one Ray McCallum and family. Dan Dakich made a visit to BSU last week. He quoted as saying "I loves the facilities here," could this all be a part of theplan. Only time will tell...McCallum is expected to make the announcement on Wednesday. Let's hope for the sake of team chemistry and stability that Ray stays at BSU. Otherwise last year may be as close as we get to the NCAA for a few rebuilding years......from S.G.S.

Posted 4/18 - Okay, so maybe I was wrong. ESPN's Andy Katz reported that Peterson would take the job, but I now news has come about that Ray is in Houston for a second round of talks with the University of Houston. Kids, it doesn't look good.. .....from A.T.

Posted 4/16 - No need to fear, Buzz Peterson was named as head coach at Houston. .....from A.T.

Posted 4/16 - I read on Indiana Basketball News that Carleton Baker, a former standout at E.C. Central and Barton CC, might have to return close to home for unspecified reasons. That could mean us. Keep in touch. .....from A.T.

Posted 4/15 - Rumors are swirling - I heard it through the grapevine that Houston University is taking a long look at Coach Mac for their coaching vacany. Don't get worried though, because I doubt he would ever leave his alma mater and home town for a struggling program. ....from A.T.

Posted 4/14 - I really enjoyed seeing what you have done with your Cardinal website. It is full of interesting stories and info on Ball State basketball. Nice job. I look forward to keeping up to date through your site. .....from David Knott

Posted 4/14 - I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what going on with the recruiting scene right now. Here's what I do know:

1. If everybody returns and everybody is eligible, BSU has no scholarships to give out. 2. Dokes & Owens had NOT qualified with their college entrance exam scores at the time that they were recruited. 3. There are a couple pieces of driftwood on the roster that would probably be better off in division 3. 4. Cameron Stephens will visit BSU on April 21-st. 5. Ray McCallum has gotten burnt over the years taking kids who were "legally challenged" 6. There are some mixed signals coming from the recruiting sites, but I believe that is only because they do not update their information often enough. 7. "Indiana Basketball News" claims that they spoke to Terry Collins very recently and that BSU has remained in contact. I believe them.

What I think: 1. Ray is still recruiting this year's seniors because he knows something we do not (like eligibility issues or transfers). 2. You have to go after somebody with Cameron Stephens' ability regardless of yoursituation. 3. There has been no action from several of our older recruits for quite a while. I think the following kids are real long shots; Cameron Echols, Aaron Carr, Johnny Davis, Juan Edwards and Eric Bush. ....from go_mighty_cards@hotmail.com
