June 10th Contest Results

Results from the Sanctioned DB Dragracing Car Audio Competition on June 10th:

Offical Results are at DBDRAGRACING.COM

"Floss 'N Gloss" had a very bad day and still walked away with another first place trophy. Nick Reed blew out his 15" sub a few days prior to the competition, so he would have to withdraw from the local competition. Two other members had to pull out due to work obligations. That meant that Jason and Roy would be the loan representatives for "FNG". That would be enough to put a small damper on the day, but then within 100 feet of the car show a pot-hole and that hole took out Jason's CD player. He had to withdraw from the show as well. Which meant that Roy would be the sole representator for the show. Then after "FNG" building their systems for "DBDRAGRACING" rules and having the show listed on the DBDRAGRACING web site as an official show, they switched rules without posting it. Even the posters on the building stated that it was a DB Drag competition. That change meant that running a 1000DB and a 500a2 would have put Roy into a class that was allowed anything over 1000watts. Someone with 48,000 watts would be in the same class, so decisions had to be made. Since Jason was pulling out, but had his system with him, they got together and took out the 15" Vega and unhooked both Rockford Fosgate amps. And after making it easy for any competitor to see that no extra wiring was used...the Jason's Kicker 500SS was hooked up to the JL Audio 18" W6. That put Roy into the 0-500 watt class.
As soon as the amp was installed and FNG was ready to tune the stereo....the rearview mirror flew off the window with one beat!
After watching virtually everyone go through the qualification line, Roy drove up to the testing lane to a reception from a few people of making fun of the mirror hanging down. Then as soon as the first note hit...their laughs became a unanimous sound or "WHAT", "UHHH", "UGH", ect. The 147.2DB was the second highest score in the whole competition. It was 2 DB higher than the next top 2 finishers in his division. And as soon as he drove back to his parking spot, Camelion was surrounded for the rest of the show with people astonished that 500 watts can push one speaker to a score of 147.2 DB.
Competitors thought that the amp was a new style that hasn't been released yet. Others asked how they could get one. A few knew it was an old school and and actually talked about how amazing the performance is on Kickers old school amps. Then there was a few more that were offering cash on the spot to but the amp right then and there.
It was nice to know that the score was respected, but it was hard to know how Roy would do in the playoffs because they didn't take the top 8 finishers. They let everyone run again and would take their highest score. And you wouldn't be competiting with other people in your same class, you would be up against someone in a whole different class. So, it was hard to know what you would need to win the respective class.
To show the first score wasn't a fluke, the setting were left alone and run the same exact way and the score was another 147.2 DB score. That proved the score was official.
Outside of the couple times through the lanes, FNG mingled with the crowd. A number of the competitors have been at tons of other competitions that FNG members have competed at.
There was always a couple of surprises. Zack Randolph, a former Marion High School and Michigan State star basketball player was in attandace. You may not know him, but he recently declared for the NBA draft, so you will know him very soon(He was drafted in the June NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazzers)! He was flossing his new Caddi SUV that was sitting on Chrome.
An even larger surprise was that Adrian Strong, who has been easily winning every show in the Super Street 5-8 class, decided to cut the system in half and run in the street 3-4 class. His score of 150.1 DB was enough to cause Jason a heart attack. Jason has been winning that class at every show and has to know do alot of updating and other work to get 1st place trophys at the other shows Adrian is at.
