When you first join the Atha'an Miere, this is what you start out as. A deckhand helps do the dirty work of manning a ship. *G* A deckhand takes orders from everyone, except of course another deckhand. You can only be raised by merit, being involved and so forth.
A Cargomaster is in charge of all trade and defense. A Cargo master could have a trainee deckhand.
Windfinders are responisble for navigation.Any girl who can channel is trained by our people to be a Windfinder. Whilst not all Windfinders can channel, any girl who can will be so trained. It is a secret we keep from the White Tower, the cost of which is a few girls sent there to train to be Aes Sedai. Our own knowledge of the waterways are better than those of the shorebound, but some insist on giving us a pilot, such as the Tairens. Those who channel are used to act more directly, handling the winds to speed travel and protect the ship from storms, and well as calm the waves. Channelling Windfinders can also assist in the ships defense with the Power.
This is the highest rank on a ship. A Sailmistress commands where the ship goes, and who may board. The ship is commanded by the Sailmistress, who is the head of the family that is the crew. Some Sailmistress’ are rich enough to own their own ships, others belong to the Sailmistress’ clan.
When a Wavemistress chooses a Swordmaster, he is often her cargomaster. He has authority over all cargomasters of the clan, and can direct their trading and defense efforts to the good of the clan.
A Clan Windfinder is head over all of the windfinders in her clan. She is often the Wavemistress' windfinder.
A Wavemistress is the head of her clan. A Wavemistress often keeps her old ship with whatever additional crew is needed, though if necessary she can take command of another’s vessel.
The Head Windfinder is the Mistress of Ships windfinder. She is head of all windfinders of the Atha'an Miere.
The Mistress of Ships is the ruler of all the clans and septs. She is chosen from among the Wavemistresses. She appoints a Windfinder as her advisor, often her advisor when she was a Wavemistress, who is in charge of all Windfinders. She also appoints her Master of the Blades, often her old Swordmaster, who is in charge of the economy and defense of all Atha’an Miere.
