Class Changes
TFL desires a role playing shard. While role playing is not required, we have many rules in place that we believe try to bring that element in as much as possible. As such, we discourage the casual changing of classes. As a result, the following system has been put in place to govern the changing of classes.
The first distinction that needs to be made is the difference between CHANGING class and ADVANCING to a new class.
CLASS ADVANCING
TFL has a class structure, http://forgottenlands.lewiston.com/mouse/tflclass.htm , that has five main groups of classess. Jack of All Trades (JOAT), Warriors, Clerics, Mages, and Druids. There are many advanced classes for each of the major classes. To move UP from a lower class (i.e. Warrior to Mercenary, Mage to High Mage, Mercenary to Knight, etc), you use the ADVANCED CLASS GATE located near the Occlo bank. The new class may have skills lower than your new class (an example would be moving from JOAT to RANGER. Rangers have some merchant skills capped lower than a JOAT). This skill change will be triggered sometime while you are playing. There is no penalty for advancing to a new class. The gate will only allow you to advance to a class when you have met the basic requirements. All requirements are clearly labled on the menu for the ADVANCED CLASS GATE.
CHANGING CLASS
As mentioned, we discourage the casual changing of class. All class choices should be done with a role playing reason in mind, however, as mentioned, we do not force role playing. If you do not wish to role play, that is allowed, but it does not exempt you from these rules. All CHANGING of class is governed by the following rules:
You cannot change class from one advanced class to another advanced class.
This means, you cannot go straight from Ranger to Dark Knight, even if you have the required skill, fame, and karma.
If you are moving from one of the five major types of class to another, you must start new on the most bottom rung of the new class.
This means, to move from Ranger to Dark Knight, you must first move to Warrior, then to Mercenary, then to Dark Knight.
If you wish to move from one advanced class to another in the same MAJOR class, you must drop down only ONE step.
This means, to move from Warlord to Dark Knight, you must first move to Mercenary then back up to Dark Knight. Do NOT move to bottom class first, as your skill caps will considerably lower than the middle class.
When you CHANGE class, the gates are written to AUTOMATICALLY drop your skills to the maximum for that class. WE WILL NOT RESET SKILL LOSS. YOU CHANGE CLASS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
If you do not fully understand your choices presented on the gate, PAGE a GM. We would be happy to help, and if a GM gives you bad information, we can fix our own mistakes if were are there on the spot.
