The old toy gas station

It was a thin metal spread
of painted smiling faces, a clean place,
The best super service
for little toy cars
Gas, oil, grease rack and a roof
to park pulled by a tiny hand.

From the attic of boyhood joys
to a garage for everyone’s memories
it sits, with a ‘56 Chevy and a
wall of uncle’s old license plates.

A toy-company oval filled in
for the flying horse or
Shells, or the Big Red M.

This busy place served
Tootsietoys and Tonka trucks
on carefree days.

It was outgrown and
went to the poor children.
Oh, the priceless toys
they gave away.
