A temporary bit of
materialistic joy , you say.
One which lasts forever
in our hearts.
The wonder, the joy,
the wait for Santa’s sleigh
is lost on grown-ups who
moan “it’s just another day.”
The glad tidings of Bethlehem
seem to fade away except for
those who know the Christ the Babe became.
Santa Claus is for children,
Christmas for adults who
sit in loneliness and dwell
on their electric trains.
Santa Claus is for children,
and so is Christmas Day,
we adults don’t want it.
