You have to have a 60 card deck, just like magic.You draw 7 cards and you have 6 prizes. When you lay down pokemon, you have to lay down a basic pokemon first, then if you have an evolution card, you can put it on the basic pokemon only if it says at the top. You have a bench right under your active pokemon. You only may have 5 pokemon on your bench at a time. When your active pokemon dies, you must take a pokemon from your bench.
Evolving Pokemon
If you have a card that says at the top: Evolves from Alakazaam Put Alakazaam on the Stage 1 Pokemon You may put Alakazaam on top of the pokemon that comes before it. For example, say you have an Abra. You lay Kadabra on top of it and then you have an Alakazaam. You can put Alakazaam ontop of Kadabra and only Kadabra. Same w/the other pokemon. Say you lay a Seel down. You come draw a Dewgong. You can put the Dewgong ontop of the Seel and only Seel. I hope you under stand that.
Attacking with Pokemon
You have energy that you lay under the pokemon to use the attacks. Like on zapdos, right to the left it shows these circles w/lightning bolts in them. Those are the energy you need. If you have 4 electric energy, you can use thunderbolt. On the thunder attack, it shows that you need 3 electric energy, and one star energy. Star energy is any kind of energy and you can put down any kind for that. So you can put down 3 electric energy and one leaf energy, or one water, or one psycic energy, ect.
Health Point at the top you see that a number there. 90 HP thats their health points. when you attack someone their health points go down. Thats why you have these little beads called damage counters. For every 10 damage you do to a pokemon. You lay 1 damage counter on that pokemon. Thats how you can tell how many HP a pokemon has left. When a pokemon dies, you have to put him in the discard pile right next to the draw pile. All the energy goes w/it If you kill a pokemon, you pick 1 of the 6 prizes that you layed out at the begenning.
Winning
To win, you must either knock out 6 of their pokemon and pick up all your prizes. You may knock out all their pokemon on their bench, or they must run out of cards to draw from their drawing pile.
