A FAITHIST FRATERNITY |
June, 1963
Dear Jim:
I believe that I am the only here-living member of the Lodge of Arac, founded by Dr. John B. Newbrough at Shalam, N.M. about 1884-1888. The Lodge was in Los Angeles, and founded by Dr. James Watson and Percival Wiksell, both of whom had been with Newbrough at Shalam.
Ever since OAHSPE came into my hands about 1930, I have learned everything possible about Newbrough, Shalam, and every group who worked to fulfill the prediction of a Faithist community.
I incorporated the Essenes of Kosmon, in California, in 1932.
We have in our archives a large 24" by 24" book, in which have been pasted galley proofs and material that never was included in OAHSPE. If you intend to produce a book containing material you have, I will loan our book to you so that you can make your book as complete as possible. Ask Ray Schlipman to send you a copy of the condensed THIRTY YEARS to pass on to Dr. Jacobsen.
I have been told (scuttlebut) that after the OAHSPE manuscript was finished in 1881, a group of spirits told Newbrough that they were a committee appointed to help him edit OAHSPE. It is my theory that these spirits caused Newbrough to make the changes, omissions, etc. from the original manuscript of OAHSPE.
Unfortunatelywhen Newbrough and Howland prepared the manuscript for the 1891 edition, the 1882 edition was used as the source material and not the complete original manuscript, as should have been done.
I have three or four large steel cases filled with material gathered for over thirty + years from all over the world about Newbrough and Faithist efforts. I call this material "ESSENE ARCHIVES". It would be a revelation to any sincere student of OAHSPE.
I am 73 years old, and do not think I will be around much longer. Who will continue the work only God knows. I do not.
Cheerio,
