A sample of Dr. John Newbrough's handwriting, from a letter he wrote in 1884 to Andrew Bates of Cambridge, Mass. Bates was a corresponding secretary for his area of the Oahspe Lodge of Faithists, the group that Dr. Newbrough founded In New York in preparation for the Shalam colony. Andrew Bates was a charter member at Shalam. The "call" mentioned in the letter was a prospectus to advertise the venture.
