Chapter five

Kari felt blindly for her keys in her evening bag as welling tears in her eyes blurred her vision. As she fumbled for the light switch in her bedroom the light flicked on and the first thing her eyes fell on was a photograph in a frame on her bedside table. Taken two years ago at one of the many awards ceremonies Kari had accompanied the group to, the picture of Chris and Kari, engaged in a hug after the announcement of one of the many awards the guys had won that nite, had touched on the insecurities of many past boyfriends. But Kari brushed them off, the same as she'd brushed off so many others comments, mostly of disbelief that the two had never been a couple after looking so enamoured in this photograph. But as she looked at it now, a wave of confusion spread over her.

On the other side of town, Chris lay away, tossing and turning, a million and one thoughts running through his mind. He and Kari had fought before, but never like this. He finally drifted off to sleep, his mind abuzz with angry, confused thoughts of Kari...and of Tia.
