Chapter
6: Set Back.
As Jamie sat in her office working
on the pile of paperwork she'd been left while she was away, her cell phone
rang. She'd placed it on her desk that morning when she walked in at eight
o'clock so she'd know where to find it. She had a history of losing it
because it was so small. She was already on her eighth phone and she'd
only started using one two years ago when she'd started the job.
Jamie picked the phone up
and recognised the number on it's screen instantly, it was the number of
Johnny Wright's cell phone. She pressed the receive button and began the
conversation, "Hi, the 'N Sync mental asylum, how can I help you?"
She suddenly bolted up to
her feet in rage, "What? What do you mean they've double booked it? Overlapped
with who? Oh, great… so I've got to re-schedule the whole tour!
So, when is it now? But that's
four weeks later! They're going to be so pleased to hear this! It's totally
out of our hands? There's nothin' we can do to change it, at all?" she
rolled her eyes heavenly, "I don't believe this! I'd better go see if they're
in so I can tell 'em!"
Jamie threw her cell phone
back down onto her desk and let out a heavy sigh before making her way
toward Clare's office.
~~~~~*~~~~~
Jamie walked into the office to
only find Clare sat behind her desk.
"Sup?" Clare asked it being
obvious to her that something was wrong.
"The damn tour!" she replied
as she sat opposite her.
"Why? What's happened?"
Before Jamie could answer
Libby and the five members of 'N Sync appeared all laughing and joking,
teasing Lance about Jenny and his love life, that was taking an unexpected
change for the better.
Jamie took a deep breath as
she stood up to face the group, "Okay guys, listen up!"
Lance, Chris and JC looked
at her as they fell silent but Justin and Joey continued talking which
made Jamie begin to lose her patience. She was not on the mood for their
antics today, she'd had hardly any sleep, she had a lot of work to get
through and she had bad news to break to them, "Timberlake… Fatone… I need
your undivided attention, this is important!" she scolded as she stood
before them with her hands resting on her hips.
Once the two males had stopped
talking her hands dropped to her sides and she continued, "Okay… I've just
had a phone call from Johnny. One of the UK arena's has overlapped the
date you were doing with another band, so it's gonna be pushed back four
weeks," she paused as the members of 'N Sync let out disappointed cries.
"They obviously didn't think
you were important enough to remember." Libby said with a smirk as she
sat down on the couch.
"How did they manage to overlap
the tour?" Chris questioned ignoring the comment that the younger woman
had made.
"I don't know the details
yet, all I do know is they booked your dates after the other band so you
were the one's who had to take a step back. The whole tour has got to be
re-scheduled… it was really unprofessional of them and they'll wish they
were more organised when I call them later let me assure you!" Jamie said
her voice filled with anger.
"So when are we flying out?"
JC asked.
"Well I haven't booked the
flights yet or re-booked the other arena's but with any luck it'll be August
1st. Then, if I can arrange it, you'll be doing the 5th and 6th at Birmingham,
the 9th and 10th in London before flying out to Ireland for the 14th and
15th."
"That means the whole tour
is gonna be set back four weeks." Joey complained.
"Well if you were listening,
I already said that!"
"Isn't that just kick you
in the crotch, spit on the back of your neck fantastic?" Clare said quoting
a line from Friends.
"Well excuse me but I've got
a tour to re-schedule." Jamie said as she turned to leave the room.
"Hey, Jamie how 'bout if I
finish up here and then come and give you a hand?"
"Would you? It'd be a big
help."
"Give me about an hour."
"Great, thanks!"
~~~~~*~~~~~
Chris signed as he sat next to
JC in the game's room. Justin and Joey were having a game of pool and Lance
was reading through some e-mail on his laptop.
"So whass up with your face?"
Chris asked JC, who had his head rested on the wall behind the couch they
sat on, with his eyes closed.
JC shook his head and headed
out of the room.
Chris went after him, "Hey,
come on, somethin' is buggin' ya'."
JC leaned up against the wall
and rested his head back on it.
"You wanna talk about it?"
"Yeah, but not here!"
"So let's take a walk."
"So talk!" Chris said as he
and JC stepped outside where the hot Florida sun beamed down on them.
"Where do I start?" JC said
with a heavy sigh.
"At the beginning would be
a good start!"
"This is serious Chris!"
"How serious?"
"It's Alyson…" he continued
as they walked across the lawn at the front of the building.
"Your ex, Alyson?"
JC nodded.
"Why? Sup?" Chris continued
encouraging him to talk.
"You know last night when
I left the club to make sure…"
"She got home safely… yeah!"
he said finishing JC's sentence.
"Well it turned into something
a little more serious than that!"
Chris looked at the younger
man, a frown crossing his face.
JC looked at him and closed
his eyes in a shameful way, "I slept with her!"
"Well why'd you do that?"
"I dunno… when I saw her all
those old feelings came back!"
"So what you gonna do?"
"I dunno man. Everything is
so complicated. I was dancing with Clare and everything was great but then
Ally show's up and…" he trailed off.
"And now you're messed up
in the head, I understand. Women have the strange ability to do that to
a guy. Whoever said women were the weaker sex was so wrong!" Chris joked
trying to make JC smile. It didn't work so he opted to ask his next question,
and quickly.
"So when you seeing Ally again?"
JC shrugged, "She said she'd
call me," he paused, "My head is so messed up… I want to be with Giddy
more than anything but how do I know she'll feel the same?"
"You don't, not until you
tell her how you feel!"
"Then there's Ally. We had
a good relationship before, then she moved to New Jersey and… oh, what
am I gonna do?"
"I dunno but I'm sure glad
I ain't where you are right now!"
"Thanks Chris, big help!"
~~~~~ Later that night
~~~~~
Once Clare had gone over to Jamie's
to help her with the re-scheduling of the tour, Libby sat at home flicking
through the channels on the TV trying to find something interesting to
watch when she was interrupted by a knock on the front door.
"Hello. What you doin'
here?" she asked with a smile as she opened the door to see Justin stood
smiling back at her before she walked back inside and sat in her spot on
the couch.
Justin followed her inside
as he knocked the front door shut behind him; "I brought a video over."
"What is it?" she asked as
he threw his coat on one of the chairs.
"Speed!" he replied as he
sat at the other end of the couch.
"What? The movie that you've
seen 200 times already?"
"It's a good action movie!"
"Oh yeah, right. It has nothing
to do with the certain leading lady, does it?"
Justin smiled mischievously
at Libby.
"Oh well, at least I get to
drool over Keanu Reeves." Libby said as she bent down in front of the video
recorder and pushed the tape inside before she picked up the remote and
sat back down on the couch.
Halfway through the movie
Libby moved round and slid down into a lying position, "Move it Curly,"
she said to Justin pushing his leg with her feet.
"I'm comfortable." He said
sinking back into his seat.
Libby looked over at him,
why d'ya have to be so damn cute? She thought.
He was wearing a pair of black
baggy jeans and a black vest top, showing off his biceps. Justin looked
after his body and it showed.
"Move it!" Libby persisted
as she continued to kick him playfully. She wasn't much in the mood for
watching a movie.
In order to stop her kicking,
he grabbed her feet and started to tickle them.
"Oh, stop it!" she screamed
trying to get her feet free from his grasp, "No. Okay, okay… stop it, stop
it… I give, I give."
Justin continued tickling,
he liked it when she was helpless against him and he knew tickling her
was the quickest, if not the only, way to achieve that.
Finally she got a foot free
and kicked out at him. It wasn't until she heard him gasp and cover his
face with his hands that she realised where she'd caught him.
"I think you broke my nose!"
he said, his voice muffled by his hands.
"Ooh, I'm so sorry!" she smiled
as she jumped over to where he sat, to check how badly he was hurt.
Justin played on her sympathy
for a couple of minutes before he confessed he wasn't hurt at all.
"You jerk!" Libby said as
she hit him in the chest with the back of her hand, "You had me thinking
I'd hurt you!"
"You did!" he said with a
smile before he started to tickle her sides causing her to wriggle and
fall onto the floor.
~~~~~*~~~~~
Justin and Libby lay on the floor
after their play fight trying to stop laughing.
Breathless Justin looked at
his watch, "I better be off, got a photo shoot with Teen Beat early tomorrow."
"How early is early?" Libby
asked as he got to his feet.
"Six-thirty."
Justin reached out his hands
to Libby to help her up. As he pulled her to her feet she wished he didn't
have to go, we were having so much fun!
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow
then?" she said, disappointment showing in her voice.
"Yep, sure will!" Justin said
with a smile as he picked up his jacket from the chair, he didn't want
to leave but he had to if he was going to get any sleep in order to look
bright the next morning.
