Sabé (played by British actress Keira Knigthley) is
Queen Amidala's most trusted handmaiden. Whenever the
Queen is in danger, Sabé acts as a decoy, taking
Amidala's place by dressing like her and putting on
white makeup. Since she looks quite similar to the
Queen, Sabé easily fools most people when she is
disguised as Amidala.
When Sabé is impersonating Amidala, the real Queen
disguises herself as one of her handmaidens. She takes
the name Padmé Naberrie and dresses like Rabé, Eirtaé,
Yané and Saché.
Sabé and Amidala developed an indirect form of
communication. They often practice it in private. This
allows Amidala to direct Sabé while she is in disguise
without revealing their secret.
When the Trade Federation invaded Naboo, Sabé took
Amidala's place to protect the real Queen. She also
accompanied her to Coruscant, the central system in
the Rebublic, along with Rabé and Eirtaé.
Like the other handmaidens, Sabé received bodyguard
training after being selected by Amidala to become her
handmaiden. She is capable of using a blaster pistol
to defend the Queen if needed. She carries a version
of the slim royal pistol, designed for practical use
and easy concealment.
She participated in the battle of Naboo, and saved
Queen Amidala by fooling the Trade Federation viceroy
with her royal costume, allowing the Queen to reach
the blaster pistols hidden in the throne.
On the above picture you can see Sabé, disguised as
Amidala, in her battle dress.
The picture on the right shows Sabé, dressed as
Amidala, along with Rabé and Padmé.
The two different royal gowns shown on this page are
the only ones Sabé wore while she was disguised Queen
Amidala throughout the movie. Since Queen Amidala
never worn those gowns in The Phantom Menace, you can
easily determine in which scenes Sabé impersonates the
Queen and in which ones she doesn't.
