Queen Amidala
Naboo. She and her people are faced with the problem
of the Trade Federation, which has stopped all
shipping to Naboo because of a dispute over the
taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems.
Throughout much of Episode I, Queen Amidala is
imitated by a decoy so that the Queen may be
protected. This allows the real Queen Amidala to act
as a handmaiden named Padme. Under this name, she goes
with Qui-Gon Jinn and the others into Mos Espa on
Tatooine to find parts for her Royal Starship. Here
they meet 9 year old Anakin Skywalker who is working
as a slave for junkdealer Watto. Anakin is later
allowed to go to Corusant on the Queen's Royal
Starship because Qui-Gon wins his freedom on a pod
race bet with Watto.
Queen Amidala, or her decoy, negotiates with the
Galactic Senate on Corusant before returning home to
Naboo. Faced with a battle against the Trade
Federation's battle droids, the real Queen begs Boss
Nass for Gungan military help and gets it. She also
reveals that a decoy has been acting in her place. She
then uses her pistol to defend the Naboo palace along
with help from Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin
Skywalker, and her guards. The Naboo forces are
victorious and repel the Trade Federation's invasion.
