Math 5 Review Worksheet 3 ANSWERS
1. Define angle of elevation and angle of depression. Draw a diagram to assist your explanation.
An angle of depression or of elevation to an object
is formed by the line of sight and a HORIZONTAL line.
The vertex of the angle is the eye of the person
looking at the object.
2. Fill in the following chart, using EXACT values.
| angle (degrees) | angle (radians) | cosine | sine | tangent |
| 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| 30 | pi / 6 | sqrt(3) / 2 | 1 / 2 | sqrt(3) / 3 |
| 45 | pi / 4 | sqrt(2) / 2 | sqrt(2) / 2 | 1 |
| 60 | pi / 3 | 1 / 2 | sqrt(3) / 2 | sqrt(3) |
| 90 | pi / 2 | 0 | 1 | undefined |
3. A wheel with a diameter of 1.2 meters is spinning at 26 revolutions per minute. What is the linear speed of a point on the circumference of the wheel?
Linear speed = V
radius = half diameter = 0.6 m
26 revolutions / min = 52pi / min (2pi per revolution)
V = rø / t
= (0.6m)(52pi) / 1 min
= 98 m/min
