The Summer of 1999 I spent six very scheduled weeks at a math and science program called Upward Bound Math and Science(UBMS). I made a lot of new friends. I learned things from environmental science to psychology. I lived in a dorm with a roommate. She is a great person. We laughed, we cried, we stayed up all night talking when we both knew we had to get up at the crack of dawn! I had a great time, that's why it was so hard to say goodbye. But we keep in touch. We all grew together and became a family in a way. Enjoy life! You don't know what could happen next.
My T/C Group
We all had T/C groups. T/C stands for Tutor/Councelor. My T/C was Steph. She is awesome. All the T/C's are awesome. In our T/C groups we had to keep journals, and an entry for each day. These were actual journals we told our T/C's what we were thinking and what was bothering us or what was making us happy. It changed from day to day. It was very eccentric down there. One day you're happy the next you are so swamped with work you feel completely overwhelmed. But then you take a deep breath, don't forget to let it out and take one assignment at a time. No one died from work. It felt like it was going to happen but no one died. I don't know if any of the other T/Cs did this, but Steph would comment on things I wrote in my journal telling me things would be alright or saying she was proud of what I did. Just making me see everything was normal and that stuff. She was like a big sister, a mother, a best friend. It was awesome. I hope everyone else had a T/C like Steph.
Backstreet Boys
We had a talent show. And these boys decided to be the backstreet boys. They even drew beards on themselves. It was a sight to see. They even had crazy girl fans in the front row with poster with the boys' names on them. They won the talent show. Trust me if you had seen it you would have given them first place too.
Men of the Campus
Sundip and Doug. The title says it all. There were other guys that were there as well. But these two seemed to be the most popular. Well there may have been a few others that came close. They are both my very good friends.
Rachelle Winzer
Rachelle is a terrific friend. She is the Homecoming Princess at her school for her class. The title Princess does not do her justice. It comes really close. She is a wonderful person. She tries her hardest to make people happy that aren't. For that I thank you Rachelle. I hope you all have a friend like her.
Mandi Murry
This is Mandi. A few people on camp called me Trina May and she was the main one. I called her Mandi Murry because if you said her middle name quick enough it sounded like Murry. She is a great gal. And a country chica like me. So we get along real well. And one major thing we have in common is WRANGLERS! Nothing looks better on a guy. Except maybe his smile. ;-)
Justin
Justin. What can I say about Justin? Even though he really pissed me off, we are still great friends. Thanks to another certain friend which MADE us talk to each other. I remember the time we spent at the Space Camp in Hunstville, Alabama. I will always remember that. Oh yeah and he is a great guy.
