Cranberry Bread-Karen/AZ: A Front Porch Chef
Ingredients:Directions:
2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. orange peel, grated
3/4 c. orange juice
1 1/2 c. fresh cranberries, chopped
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in a large bowl.
Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
Add egg, orange peel and orange juice all at once;
stir just until mixture is evenly moist.
Fold in cranberries and walnuts.
Spoon into a 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes
or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.

"Swedish Rosettes"- Andi: A Front Porch Chef
Ingredients: Directions:
These are very light, pretty, and best of all, low cal!
1 1/2 lbs. solid vegetable shortening
1 c. flour
1/2 tsp salt
1-3 tsp sugar
1 egg
Heat shortening in deep fat fryer or heavy saucepan with candy thermometer to 365 degrees.
In mixing bowl, beat remaining ingredients until smooth.
Follow rosette iron manufacturers' directions to shape
and fry rosettes,being careful to maintain temperature at
365 degrees for proper doneness.
Makes 5 dozen rosettes.
Sprinkled with powdered sugar, and place on a
platter, these look just like snowflakes!

Baked Apples -Eddie of TN: A Front Porch Chef
Ingredients: Directions:
5 to 6 apples (calls for baking apples but Grannies work everywhere)
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup boiling water
2 tbsp butter (or margarine)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
Core them bad boys (the apples that is) and peel each about 1/4 way down.
Arrange in a baking dish.
Fill the centers with raisins.
Combine the sugar, water, butter, cinnamon
and nutmeg - then pour over the apples.
(might be a bit hot to taste right now ... it was boiling water to begin with :o).
Bake at 375 degrees F for 30-40 minutes.
Can serve this one warm or cool.

Just before the 'picnic', place it as a centerpiece on the table.

When meal is consumed ... reach in and serve the 'Dirt Cake' - ewwwwwwww but YUMMIE.

Note: You may combine cream cheese, sugar, prepared pudding,
gummies, and cool whip, topping with remaining oreos for a different look. -kathi

Dirty Cake -Eddie of TN: A Front Porch Chef
Ingredients: Directions:
1 big 'ol pkg of Oreos, crushed and divided
1 stick of butter
1 pkg Cream Cheese (8 oz), softened
1 C powdered sugar
1 carton Cool Whip (16 oz)
1 large box of Choc Pudding
1 pkg 'gummie worms'
----
1 hand spade (new and clean preferred :o)
1 big 'ol plant pot (new and washed)
Some fake flowers (new plastic, washed)
----
Set aside about 1/2 cup Oreos for later use
Melt butter and mix in remaining crushed cookies.
Cover drainage hole in bottom of pot with butter tub lid,
or plastic wrap. (or use a washed, plastic pot insert)
Press mixture into sides of the plant pot.
Beat the cream cheese, until creamy
Mix in sugar and just over half of the Cool Whip.
Spread mixture into base and along sides of pot. Chill.
Mix pudding according to package directions and add as a third layer. (gummie worms may be added at this time)
Chill overnight.
Add remaining Cool Whip (4th layer) and sprinkle the top with remaining Oreos.
Add flowers and shovel for decoration.
