Being an IIScian is a unique experience. Many senior research scholars feel that a true IIScian experience is only when one outlives his/her institute-allowed tenure. Probably things are different now. We have a new creed of M.E students who pass out in 3 semesters. And a distinct trend where M.Sc(Engg.) students move out in 4 to 5 semesters! Whether it is good or bad a trend, one thing is for sure. The short-termers of IISc (and the department) have out-numbered the PhDs! No less are they proud of their life here. Gruelling coursework, Departmental Seminar, CEA activities, New Year parties, Campus Interviews, January-end Food Festivals and a sudden parting. That is it. It is all over. The closer lot stay tuned with each other for sometime. And then it diffuses away. After a couple of years we hardly have the phone numbers of our friends and classmates. I think this is true of the true IIScians too! A lot of discussions were held during the golden jubilee to contact alumni, get corpus fund contributions, host a re-union and things like that. Sadly, we don't even have a fraction of alumni information up-to-date. This database is aimed at accomplishing one purpose : to stay tuned, with each other, and with the alma mater, even decades after passing out from this great institution.
I am thankful to Gandhiji, our former chairman, for his encouragement. And to Dr. Prabhu R. Nott for creating a new account for alumni. Acknowledgements to my friends A.V. Ganesh and L. Srinivasa Mohan for their inputs while creating this homepage.
Adieu,
S.S.Vasan.
