Chapter 6

It was noon, and Michelle had been doing a pretty good job of avoiding Lance. She was in her office finishing some charts, when she got a knock on the door.

Knock!

“Come in, its open.” Michelle said as she took her glasses off.

“Hi Michelle. Umm, I was just going out to lunch, would you like to join me. There are a few things that I think we need to talk about.” Lance asked anxious, trying to hide his nervousness. ‘Don’t act stupid Lance, act natural’ he thought.

“Uh...”she started. ‘Don’t go. You can’t go your not ready for this. Say no.’ she thought. She knew she shouldn’t go. She knew she should say no. But once she saw that smile that she had loved so much. “Sure, lets go.” Michelle answered not only surprising herself but Lance as well.

Lance and Michelle ended up going to lunch at Cafe Amour downtown.“So...”Lance started.

“You said there was something you wanted to talk about.” Michelle asked started to feel uncomfortable.

“Oh yeah right. talk..” Lance said. ‘way to go Lance act dumb really smart.’he thought.

“You know the action with you lips where words come out.” Michelle sarcastically said.“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be mean.” ‘this is not going good.’she thought.

“No its ok. I wanted to talk to you about what happened in the elevator last night.”Lance started.

“Okay...”Michelle answered. ‘what is he going to say?’

“I think what happened was......was a mistake.” Lance said not wanting to look her in the eyes. ‘why the hell did I just say that, I loved every minute of it, and never wanted it to end.’he silently insulted himself.

“Mistake....um I need to get back to the hospital. Thanks for lunch.” she quickly said and got up trying to get out of there without him seeing her start to cry. But he noticed it, and just didn’t react fast enough. ‘Great you were too scared to admit you still love her and hurt her again.’ he thought as he put his head in his hands. This time, he wasn’t going to let her get away. He was going to get back his one true love his soulmate, and never let her go.

By five o’clock, JC and Jana had only talked with three co-workers. They had just left one of the wife’s co-workers house.

“Is it just me or did she say ‘I don’t recall’ or ‘I don’t remember’ just a little too much?” Jana inquired as they stepped out onto the sidewalk.

“There is definitely something there. We just have to find it. I think you were right this is going to be a long night.” JC answered, as he guided Jana towards his car.

“Brian is definitely going to pay for this. How much you wanna bet that he’s already done?” Jana responded as she sat into the passenger seat of JC’s black BMW.

“Oh don’t worry he is going to pay for this. So what’s the plan partner?” JC asked emphasizing the “partner” part.

“Well “partner”, lets go see some of their friends, and then go back to the office and try to figure this whole thing out.” She said as she watched the snow fall.

‘She was always was so fascinated with watching the snow fall. she’s so beautiful.’ he thought as they drove towards uptown New York.

Michelle decided to make it an early day, and go home. She wouldn’t be able to handle seeing Lance after their conversation earlier.“So Gina where did you run off to so early last night?” Michelle inquired to her friend over the phone.

“Well I met this guy. He’s so..so..so perfect! We decided to leave early, and we went to this coffee house near by. Michelle we stayed up all night talking and getting to know each other.”Gina gushed.

“Sounds like a keeper. What’s his name? What does he do?” Michelle inquired wanting to know more about Gina’s latest match.

“Well his name is Justin Timberlake and he works for...”Gina started. As soon as he heard the guy’s name, Michelle almost choked on the tea she was drinking. “Michelle isthere something wrong?”Gina finished.

“Justin Timberlake? As in tall, blonde curly hair, blue eyes, killer smile?”Michelle asked wondering if it was the same one that she grew up with.

“Yes to all. Do you know him?” Gina responded.

“Know him! He’s practically a brother to me! We grew up together, we lived down the street from each other. He was one of my best friends.” Michelle said, glad that Justin found a great girl like Gina. And that Justin was in New York. She hadn’t seen him in years. After her break up with Lance, the only one she ever really saw again from the“gang” was Jana. One of the worst parts of the aftermath of breaking up with Lance, was she lost five of her six best friends. But they were all back in the same city. It was fate for them to be friends and close once again.

“That’s great! Well I have to go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Bye!” Gina said and the two ended their conversation.
