Chapter 6

Lissa looked at the faces surrounding her as she told her story. "So. After the war was over, our father died. The original plan was for Maeve and I to each rule over Temra. But as you know, Maeve is very power hungry, and decided she couldn't have that."
Rohan leaned his chin on the palm of his hand. "What did she do?"
Lissa sighed. "Well, to put it plainly, she decided to get rid of me."
Deirdre stared at her. "Get rid of you!"
Lissa nodded. "Yup. About a week after our father died, she took me out. For a walk, she said. After we were a great, great distance from Temra, she left me in a forest. Being only eight, I could not find my way home. I was in the forest for two weeks. I survived by eating berries and wheat that I found. Finally, a king came across me, and took me to his land. Since he had no heir to his throne, the arraignment was good for both of us. I grew up there, and tried to forget about my past and just focus on my future. It worked..for a while. But as of late, I find myself thinking more and more of my sister, and her actions. And that is why I'm here. To confront Maeve."
The whole time, King Conchobar had been sitting silently, listening. Now he looked up. "So..you are a princess?"
Lissa nodded. "Yes. But not of Temra. No more. I'm princess of the land of Kanen."
Conchobar nodded. "I've heard of it. But its far from our island.."
Lissa smiled. "I hitched a ride on a supply ship. It wasn't easy to hide a girl and a horse on such a ship.."
They all laughed. "I should say not! So, Princess Lissa, what are your plans now?,"
Lissa felt slightly embarrassed. "Please, just Lissa. Well, I plan to continue on to Temra, and then.." She stopped. What was her plan?
King Conchobar nodded slowly. "Well. While your thinking of your plan, please, consider yourself a guest of Kells. At least for the night. It will be night soon, and you can not ride through the forest alone in the dark."
Lissa bit her lip. He had a point.. "Thank you, King Conchobar. I accept."
He stood. "Excellent! Deirdre, please show Lissa to a guest room." Deirdre nodded.
Lissa picked up her bag, and they headed upstairs.
Angus smiled as he watched Lissa and Deirdre head up the stairs. "She's something, ain't she Rohan?"
Rohan looked at him curiously. " I thought you didn't like Deirdre very much."
Angus looked at his old friend. "Not Deirdre! Lissa."
Rohan smiled. "Ah. I think someone has a crush."
Angus rolled his eyes. "Rohan. I'm too old for crushes." With that, Angus headed out of the throne room, eyes still at the stairs.
Rohan chuckled to himself. "Oh, you are, are ye?"
