Courtney chewed her gum as she bustled around the kitchen of the O'Briens. She was going to be their nanny for the whole summer. It was either nanny for their three children, or work at the local mall. She had chose the children. They were good kids, really. A little rambunctious at times, but what kids weren't? Courtney grinned over her shoulder at the littlest O'Brien, Peggy. She was a two year old with the cutest smile Courtney had ever seen. Peggy grinned back and tossed a cracker at her.
Courtney laughed. "Hey! I told you to keep your crackers on your tray!," Courtney teased, scooping up the cracker and tossing it in the sink. The door flew open as the other two O'Brien children, Megan and Greg, burst through the door. This being the last day of school, the children were excited.
"Courtney! Look!," Megan ran over to her, waving a certificate. "I won best reader in my whole class!," For the nine year old Megan, this was exciting.
Greg, who had just turned seven, was busily raiding the kitchen for a snack. Courtney gently caught him and steered him over to the table, where she had already laid out some fruit. He grinned at her and started munching on a banana. Megan flopped down at the table and rummaged in her pack.
"Wanna see what else I got?,"
Courtney grabbed some juice boxes and sat next to her. "Sure.,"
Megan pulled out a glossy book. A picture of a castle adorned the front. Megan had gotten in to castles and knights and princesses and stuff at the beginning of the year. Courtney had spent much time watching Megan and her brother conquer imaginary beasts and opposing warriors in the back yard. Peggy usually watched her brother and sister, laughing. Courtney laughed as Greg and Megan poured over the new book, exclaiming over the pictures.
Greg looked up at her. "Courtney? Are their still castles some place?,"
Courtney nodded, scooping up the empty plates. "Sure! Take Ireland, for example. They have a lot of castles.,"
The kids looked at each other. "Really?," Megan asked.
Courtney nodded. "Yup. They are all old and crumbly, but their there!,"
The kids were excited now. "Can we go there someday?,"
Courtney laughed. "Sure. Right after we go to the library.,"
The kids laughed. "Courtney!,"
She laughed and made shooing motions. "Come on, go get your things. Its story time today, remember?," Shouting excitedly, the children ran to get their things. Courtney shook her head. Castles, princes, princesses, knights. Yeah, right….
