Stones Unturned

"We are royalty!...
Royalty always makes the proper decision!"
(Princess Deirdre)

"Anything can be an illusion except truth.
There is no truth in illusion."

(King Fin Varra) from ("IVAR AND THE SEA SERPENT ")

The curtain of early evening reveals a clear, moonless spring night over King Conchobar's castle and Princess Deirdre and Prince Ivar from a parapet above wavng down,"Farewell, see you two tomorrow!"As two of the mystic knights,Rohan and Angus leave the castle courtyard for their home--the other knight, Garret had been sent to the northern border to train Kell soldiers.

Ivar jumps down the castle's weather-worned stone steps several at a time, to the castle's western gate and is about to go through, when Deirdre catching up behind him says,"And where are you heading to in such a rush?" He stops, turning his head saying,"Princess?" Looking up at the sky he remarks,"Nice night for a walk along your shores. I love the smell of brine in the windy air, reminds me of sailing the open seas", smiling at her.

"Like a first mate along shipmaster?" She comments, wrapping her black velvet cloak around her, walking along smiling and he nods slowly. They head down to the craggy coastline negotiating the darkness--feeling their way over large boulders, their boots drenched by the waves of an angry high tide. A large group of boulders along a steep cliff, become a headrest. They lean back and talk as the waves crash underneath, trying to rise up to meet them.

Ivar sweeping a finger in the air remarks,"So many kingdoms to explore," as he looks at the star-sprinkled sky.

Deirdre smirks,"What, up there? Don't talk such nonsense, Ivar!"

Ivar with his left elbow on his upraised knee, looks slowly over at Deirdre, questioning her,"And just...HOW..DO YOU KNOW...what is up there? Could be princes and princesses like us looking up at their skies and wondering what destinieswill unfold for them."

Princess Deirdre thoughtfully comments, "Funny thing about destiny, it can be unpredictable...I mean of course as royalty, our lives are all planned out with glorious futures but then, out of nowhere, something comes and throws everything out of control, taking you to some unfamiliar door and you have to go through it. I want to journey and see other lands and people just as you have. Perhaps when Kells are finally at peace before I have to fulfill my duties as queen, I want to sail the high seas myself, perhaps as a Royal Fleet Commander. I hope that is my destiny!", Deirdre looking at Ivar hopefully as her windswept hair dances up to meet her crown.

Ivar stares for a moment and then snickers,"You, a sailor?" Laughingly continues, " But Deirdre, you are a princess, a girl. You think you could handle the rough seas? I simply doubt it!"Ivar shaking his head.

Deirdre arching her eyebrow with annoyance,"I'm a princess and a warrior!" I can do battle with the sea as I do on land!"Looking confidently at him.

Ivar shakes his head, leaning back and grins remarking,"I've never met a princess that is.. so unlike a princess, before."

Deirdre folds her arms,"Oh..And what's unlike..a..princess mean Ivar?"

Ivar laughingly remarks,"I'll keep silent, before I get into trouble!"

Both of them start laughing, Deirdre faking an attempt to strangle his neck, then resting her head on his chest, listening to the waves roll loudly towards them, each aware of their emotions rising along with the sound, feelings concealed behind their royal masks. But little by little, their growing closeness makes them very aware of the boundaries of race, culture and protocols of royalty that must be maintained--what shouldn't or couldn't be.

They both look out to the sea, silently wondering what will be faced together as Mystic Knights beyond the next horizon.

A bogie watching them from behind a boulder bounds off to Temra.

At the castle in Temra, Queen Maeve holding up her scepter to unveil the image of Princess Deirdre and Prince Ivar at the shore through the Bogie's consciousness states,"Well, well,...what do we have here? Hmm, Princess fancies Prince Ivar. Perhaps this is just what I need to break up the Mystic Knights. So young ... vulnerable, an uncontrolled passion could lead to a total upheaval for Kells. Yes I could stir them to passion which could lead Deirdre to wrap herself around him distracting her attentions from the Mystic Knights, perhaps even tainting the Conchobar's bloodline. He would never stand for it, despite Ivar's royal status or loyalty to Kells."

Nodding and talking to herself," Yes,I know just what to do,"as a malicious smile creeps up on her face. "Humans can never resist what is forbidden. What they know they can't have, makes way for their obsessions to possess! Youth always challenges the forbidden! They will be denied nothing!" She laughing out loud to herself.

The following morning at the castle of Kells,Cathbad's long, bony fingers are already hard at work, tracing down his scroll a long list of necessary herbs for his potion, when suddenly a vision quickly washes over him--a bright orange, oval glow of light in the sky accompanied by a screeching falcon, which appears with a cobalt-blue hood on its head and landing softly on Princess Deirdre's shoulder. In its beak--a ring, which the princess takes places it on her finger, kissing the beak of the falcon which then transforms into a human male, blind-folded, the face is concealed--blurred, in blue haze. The princess embraces passionately. The vision ends.

Cathbad analyzing talking to himself saying,"Out of the blue, blind love overtakes the princess! But who is he?" Cathbad's fingers combing through his beard.

The king, Deirdre and Ivar come into the throne room, laughing at Ivar's comment with Deirdre giggling,"Ivar, your kingdom must be at a loss, you bring such good cheer to our home!"

Ivar smiling broadly commenting, "Thank you Deirdre, I do feel quite comfortable here, Kell's warm hospitality is deeply appreciated."

Rohan and Angus appear and bow to the three royals and the king anxious to get started states,"Oh good Rohan and Angus, you're here."

All nod and prepare to sit when Ivar clears his throat and places his hand on Angus' shoulder commenting,"Okay Angus, where did you hide my medallion? It was on the chessboard last night."Ivar looking over his shoulder.

Angus swinging his hair, feigning surprise and shock remarks,"Why does it always have to be me?" A huge grin could not be concealed,"And Oh...I thought you could use your special powers to find it, hmmm?" Putting Ivar on the spot.

The king, princess, Rohan and Cathbad approaching the table, look at Ivar questioningly.

Ivar looks down at Angus states, "Oh, as you wish!" Closing his eyes a moment he then moves about the center of the throne room. Then heads towards the throne, turns right to the wall. Mounted on the wall, a row of six torch fixtures, Ivar moves his hand along the row back and forth, then stopping at the fourth one. He sticks his hand into the fixture then looking smiling at Angus, lifts out the medallion.

Cathbad eyebrows arches up at Ivar's ability and Deirdre, the king and Rohan break out into laughter and applause.

"Well done, Ivar!" King Conchobar impressed.

Cathbad also shows interest in Ivar's talent inquires, "Where did you learn your ability?"

Ivar explains,"All citizens of my homeland have been trained in psionic talents. We go to a place called THE CIRCLE, a site set in a quarry whose stones have high energy magickal qualities. It aligns true north of the main kingdom of Arinia where we meet with the High Magic Users--a sect of Energy Manifesters, similar to what you call wizards or sorcerers. These High Magic Users are keepers of the ancient wisdom of mind manifestation techniques. They train us as adolescents in psionic powers.

Cathbad's recognition of the sect and the name Arinia, now realizes Prince Ivar's true heritage, for the Druid's teachings also came from the same source. He was determined to uncover more about Ivar's homeland, but for now he is to advise the king on this meeting's agenda.

In Temra, Queen Maeve summons Midir, dark fairy to aid in activating her new plan against the Mystic Knights,"Midir, I would need to conjure an exact likeness of Ivar--not just in looks, but in mannerisms, state of mind--his emotions will be created by me--a substitute Ivar to fool the Princess and the others. I cannot use my scepter stone, the effects do not last long enough. What I need is to first get Princess and the Prince Ivar to enter into the forbidden. Next, I will switch the Ivars, place my creation with the Princess for a few days in which he will make the princess his sole mission. She will succumb. The deed done, the real Ivar will be released, and Princess thinking he is the illusion of my making, will destroy the real Ivar to keep her new love of her life what she thinks is the real Ivar safe--my creation! This cannot fail! She will be Prince Ivar's undoing, diminishing the strength of the Mystic Knights. We will also need a diversion for the other knights. Garret, my spies tell me, is at a Kell outpost in the north, we will deal with him later, leaving four of them vulnerable, then after we separate and capture Ivar during their battle, we will replace him with our Ivar, leaving only three real Mystic Knights." Maeve walking around her throne room.

Midir smiles and spins around on the table and with a flick of the wrist, manifests a realistic version of Ivar, holding a large magenta colored net of energy in his hands.

As she looks up and down, walking around the conjured Ivar she remarks, "Dear Princess, you will never know the difference, until it's too late! Hah!" Maeve proud of her scheme.

The Mystic Knights all congregate in Cathbad's quarters except for Deirdre staying behind at the request of her father who wanted her presence to meet one of his other friends, who just happens to have an eligible son close to Deirdre's age too.

Angus always touching everything on Cathbad's table, spies an unusual odd-shaped, wooden object--covered with strange symbols and colorful stones, which he immediately picks up and plays catch with it.

"Put... that... down Angus, it belongs to Ivar, it's a sacred object!" Cathbad bellows and scowls at him.

Angus squinting and trying to find the opening, throws it to Ivar,"So what's this for, a box for your mental powers to make things disappear?"

Cathbad glares with exasperation at Angus,"I wish it could make...YOU.. disappear!"

Ivar laughs and holding it in his palm, "It's my family's Puzzle Box which contains my Ring of Destined Union. The royal princess that I deem worthy for betrothal must prove herself by opening this box. Not an easy challenge. Countless of women from many kingdoms have tried but failed. The box can be opened just once.

Rohan explodes laughing and ribbing Angus and remarks,"Just think Angus, you pick the lock on this box as you do others, you could end up walking down the aisle with Ivar! Ivar, Angus would not make a good-looking wife, and you should see how he keeps house or cooks!" All the knights including Cathbad break out laughing.

Just then Deirdre and Aideen flying behind her arrive, with Aideen flying immediately over to see the box in Ivar's hand.

Angus watching the curiosity of the fairy commenting,"Sorry Aideen, you're also not eligible to fly down the aisle with Ivar!"

Aideen gives him a puzzled look asking,"What do you speak of Angus... what aisle?"

Rohan speaking to her,"It's a betrothal box Aideen, a lady destined for Ivar must first solve the puzzle box and win the treasure inside, his Ring of Destined Union."

Aideen loving surprises transforms her tiny body into pure energy and penetrates the box which momentarily glows, she reemerging exclaiming,"Oooh... how beautiful, the most beautiful stones I have ever seen. The woman for you will be so special, she has to be..to deserve this ring!"Aideen hovering excited.

"Yes Aideen, special indeed!" Ivar smiling at her.

Deirdre also curious at the written symbols takes a step closer to examine the box when Aideen flies between her and the box stating boldly,"Princess, this is for women worthy of Ivar. The ring couldn't possibly be for you, it is just too beautiful and too good for someone like yourself." Aideen guarding the box with arms folded.

The other knights look at each other cringing. Rohan and Angus whistles and rolling their eyes upward toward the ceiling commenting,"Here it comes!"

Deirdre eyes widened, putting her hands on her hips and in a loud voice, shouts,"LISTEN HERE AIDEEN... HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY! I AM ROYALTY! SO THAT MAKES ME WORTHY!!! STAND ASIDE PIXIE... IF YOU VALUE YOUR WINGS!"

Aideen miffed folding her arms flew to Rohan's side.

Angus slides over to the princess, seeing Ivar's embarrassment and takes it from Ivar quickly. "Well Deirdre, the box is too difficult for most women to open, so uh...why bother your chances are none...in opening it. Take it from someone who..uh..well you know... sort of experienced in picking locks.."

"Thieving, you mean!" Deirdre interrupting and looking annoyed at him. "So what is it doing in here Cathbad?"

Cathbad looks up and walks slowly to the princess,"I wished to see the symbols on Ivar's box to see if they were recognizable to me."Quickly grabbing it from Angus catching him off guard."Although, there are some differences some of the characters which can invoke powers can be found in some of my ancient scrolls. We Druids have been able to obtain writings from many civilizations and have traced it to a common origin. There may be some common ancestry after all Ivar!"Cathbad smiling and nodding to the Prince.

Ivar grins at him, "You never can tell."

Angus trying to reach out to grab back the box, but the old Druid moves away quickly from him smirking back at him, "Well if that true Ivar, let's see some of your powers outside team up against my warrior skills!"Boasting in front of the Princess, who rolls her eyes up at Ivar and Rohan.

"Okay Angus, I'll show you a thing or two..outside!"Ivar pointing to the door and walks out with Angus, Rohan and Aideen following behind.

Deirdre stays behind, "Cathbad, I need to talk to you about Father".Walking with arms folded and pouting.

Cathbad seeing the seriousness in the princess'eyes,"As you wish, Deirdre."

Walking to the door to the outside courtyard, Angus nudging Ivar,"Hey Ivar, why didn't you ask Deirdre to open your box? After all, she is royalty!"

Ivar stops in his tracks, turning around concealing his feelings commenting sarcastically, "What Angus? Surely you jest, you would allow ME to take YOUR place? I wouldn't dream of it. I will not challenge you for Deirdre's hand in marriage, I'll let you and Garret battle it out!"

Rohan laughing and Aideen hovering nearby Ivar remarks,"That's right Ivar, we know how you are just dying to get married.. to the Princess anyway..you're much too good for her!" Rohan gives Aideen a look of warning,"Now Aideen...Be nice!"Aideen then blurting out,"Well the Princess threatened to pluck off my wings!"

Rohan lifts his eyes in thought comments,"But you know Ivar, you should never leave a stone unturned. You never know, the one rock you didn't pick up to turn over might just be the one. You could miss your path. Allowing all princesses except for Deirdre, you're looking for trouble my friend, the universe has a way of playing games and tripping you up!"

Ivar looks at Angus with his eyebrows raised skeptically,"Do we laugh now, Angus?"

All burst out laughing including Angus who continues,"Yea Ivar, don't say he didn't warn you."Raising his eyebrows several times, looking at Rohan who remarks,"Pay him no mind Ivar, he's daft!"Rohan shaking his mane sideways.

Outside the castle, Ivar displays his battling form to Angus, this time wooden poles instead of swordplay. Ivar blindfolded, is able to capture Angus' strikes--arms stretched high, then rolling to the ground, quickly moving at lightning speed around Angus, Ivar avoiding him, coming underneath kicks Angus, jabs with his pole, Angus falls to the ground.

Ivar victorious,"I'm warmed up now, ready to go at it?"

Angus staggering to his feet breathless and walking away,"Remind me..(puff) ..to throw you..(puff)..in a dark pit, let's see you get out of that one!!!" Angus stabbing the air with his finger at Ivar, annoyed.

Onlookers including Rohan collapse with laughter.

The princess inside with Cathbad listening to her latest complaint stating, "And another thing Cathbad, I don't want to be a pawn in a political alliance. I will choose whomever I want to love. I will not be one of those princesses miserable for the rest of her life, missing out on the right person to love, NO!"As she continues, she unconsciously works her fingers on the puzzle box, pulling piece by piece, twisting and turning layer by layer being freed without her noticing little flicks of light on the puzzles surface momentarily lighting up different symbols,"I am Princess of Kells who lives a rich life of adventure and now...added purpose as a Mystic Knight. My future husband should be equally exciting , I am destined to find..." SNAP!!

The loud sound startling Cathbad, turning him around quickly from his potion-making to see the stunned expression on the face of the princess, her mouth gaped silent, eyes wide.

She tries to regain her composure, slowly pulling out the ring encrusted with jewels she has never seen before--in the center--a falcon head in gold surrounded by gems. She and Cathbad examining the ring,"Great Dagda!!Have you ever seen such stones? "Cathbad trying to identify them. "But Deirdre, you cannot be..."

The princess slowly slips the ring onto her finger and suddenly the stones come to life --glowing colors that lit up Cathbad's entire quarters, eerie lights dancing on her face exclaiming, "It's incredible!" The ring fitting snuggily on her finger,"Fit for a queen! Ivar!!!" The name now making her chest pound.

Cathbad spying three handmaidens outside his quarters, he calls to them requesting them for their presence in his room. They obeyed. Quickly he took the ring off Deirdre's finger and asked all three women to try it on, All three complied, gasping at its beauty. One after another tries it on but the stones on the ring did not react.

The princess looks on with curiosity asking,"What does this mean Cathbad?"

Cathbad thanks the women who then leave his chamber talking about the ring's beauty. Then making sure no one else is nearby, he returns the ring to the princess' finger and as before, brilliant lights appear dancing throughout the room again. Cathbad's amazed,"Great Dagda!! It's unbelievable YOU are the only one it REACTS to, but how can you be..."Cathbad tries to finish his sentence but interrupted by her.

"You will tell absolutely no one, expecially Ivar or Father. That is a Princess Command!" Deirdre looking sternly at Cathbad. Her eyes returning to the ring, she then puts it on a chain concealing it. She then closes the box, all pieces back in place, so no one is the wiser. She quickly leaves to join the others in the courtyard leaving slow-moving Cathbad trying to catch up to her to give her badly needed counsel calling out, "Deirdre!"

She heads outside to see a crowd of Kells watching Ivar from the sidelines demonstrating how to battle using other senses. She watches Ivar's every move now more closely, than ever. After all, she now has a reason.

Cathbad emerges as well, to see the blind-folded Ivar. His morning vision now has a face--the blindfolded falcon/male dressed in blue--Ivar! The vision showing a falcon on Deirdre--the falcon head on the ring. Cathbad slaps his forehead, "GREAT DAGDA.!!! It is.... IVAR!"

Ivar instructing,"Okay Rohan, do your worst! Let's see what you can do.I am not using my eyesight, but my mind is picking up information about outside surroundings--sounds bouncing off objects.Sounds must be present to see this way. This allows the mind to get another picture, on top of what your eyes would see. This picture--black and white--hazy can be seen even in complete darkness. Even magical darkness will not affect this ability. Invisible objects can be seen, illusions become transparent or half-transparent if it is shadow magic."

Rohan comes at him from different directions and still Ivar is able to elude him.

Ivar hitting Rohan's pole accurately continues,"Things that have small details--like painted patterns, writings, pictures cannot be seen. Magical silence will only allow you to see blackness so a magically silenced person will look like a black circular object in your mind. Now move in closer Rohan!", Ivar immediately leaping back farther as Rohan lunges at him with a wooden pole.

"See? Using all your senses--feel the energy presence--heat, light from the sun, wind pressure, direction, think of it like you are walking or wading your body in a lake or river feel the sensations like that--but instead of water it's energy. Listen to voice direction--judge distance. Use your danger sense like you did with the Hounds of Temra--locating your adversary or an object.

This is what real Mystic Knighthood from other lands are trained to do-- highly-skilled mental powers--including telepathy, telekinesis, remote-viewing, mind over body, deflecting and shielding against negative forces."

Suddenly from the top of a tower, a Kell guard shouts out an approaching battalion of Temran soldiers in sight. The demonstration ends--the knights and people of Kells brace themselves for another battle.

Later in the day, the battle-wearied Mystic Knights unwind up in the north, passing across huge boulders along waterfalls when Angus winks at Deirdre, tells her, "Now!"

She feigns falling off a rock overhang which has a space underneath, unknown to Ivar and shrieks, hiding underneath out of sight. Ivar and Rohan had fallen behind talking hears the scream reaching Angus who acted shouting,"OH MY DAGDA! The princess had fallen over,"OH MY LUGH!" Faking shock and crying.

Ivar falls back shock, triggering one of his episodes....

Color lights flashing before his eyes--hearing the clanging of swords--the image of his fight with his older brother, Jantar. Ivar's anger so intense after he found his girlfriend Findar with Jantar together.

The fight then went outside the castle to one of the outside balconies. Both leaping down, scrambling to their feet and swords swinging. Jantar screaming,"OH COME NOW IVAR...COME NOW, SWEET LUGH! IVAR GREAT SWORDSMAN IS SHE WORTH THIS? YOU JUST ARE NOT THE MIGHTY SWORDSMAN IN HER CHAMBER.. THAT'S ALL! Jantar with a haughty laugh.

With that remark, Ivar crashes his sword on his brother's. They are now running to a bluff, Findar so frightened for both princes, decides to jump in. Climbing the rocks and rotting tree roots, she pleads with Ivar and Jantar to stop. She grabs Ivar's arm, who violently pushes her away to keep her from harm of the swords, and then she loses her footing. The final screams were so piercing, Ivar peering over the cliff to see his love dead on the rocks below. His voice screaming and sobbing uncontrollably.

Ivar's episodes trigger without warning--shortness of breath, sobbing uncontrollably,"I'M SO SORRY, LUGH! FIN..DAR! Shouting.

The others looking on bewildered, not understanding. The princess jumps out of the rock to see Ivar's episode. She runs with panic to him,"Ivar, Ivar, it's alright I'm here, I'm alright we were joking with you. There's a rock overhang underneath, a space to hide."

Angus half-laughing, stopped realizing something is terribly wrong with Ivar.

Ivar hears Deirdre's voice, looks at her, grabs her tightly and then realizing what he is doing, pushes her away, "Sorry Deirdre, I thought.." looks at everyone staring at him and then he bolts, leaving the other knights abandoned.

"What in Dagda's name was that all about?" Rohan stunned turning to the others with question in his eyes.

Princess Deirdre and Angus also looks worried.

Later on in Cathbad's quarter,"Nowhere in the Castle!" Deirdre runs in breathless joining Angus and Rohan. Angus totally mystified and annoyed, remarking,"It was just a joke! What is the matter with him, can't he take a joke?"

Rohan explains to Cathbad what Angus and the princess did to Ivar and Cathbad explodes, "You did what? Great Dagda! How could you do such a thing to him, knowing what he's been through? Do you youths have any feelings, everything to you Angus, is a joke! Don't you know that sometimes pranks could have serious consequences or could be even fatal? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO IVAR, GREAT LUGH! No wonder he left. YOU STABBED HIM IN HIS HEART AND SOUL! Deirdre! How can YOU be so HEARTLESS about his Findar!"

"Findar? What is a findar?" Deidre looks at Cathbad not understanding.

After Cathbad's explosion, he sees all their expressions, then he realizes that Ivar never told any of them. Ivar has always kept his emotions locked inside behind his royal mask--he's a prince in control, following courageously towards his royal destiny.

Cathbad sighs and starts to mix herbs and liquids into a glass cylinder-- an elixir, he explains what happened to Ivar, everything about what caused his episodes. Upon his finishing the story, Rohan, Angus and Deirdre were so upset, Angus feeling so guilty and Deirdre raises her hand to her mouth. Holding up the elixir,"I have prepared his elixir made of Druid sacred herbs--Hops for sleep and healing, Betony--a magickal herb to expel nightmares and despair. I have been preparing it since Ivar has been with us,when his episodes happen uncontrollably. I witnessing... what you've seen for the first time today. No wonder, what you did was an re-enactment how Findar died... the poor Prince."Cathbad scowling at them.

Deirdre so overcome with guilt that she runs out of the room shouts,"MUST FIND HIM! OH MY LUGH! MY LUGH! Running down the Castle's hall.

Cathbad shouts after her, "NO DEIRDRE! YOU SHOULDN'T GO TO HIM, HE IS VERY VULNERABLE!" Cathbad having a strong, foreboding feeling overtaking him. His words fall on deaf ears, the princess is nowhere in sight.

She runs to the beach, clambering over the rocks, knowing Ivar loves to be among the rocks or maybe..in the dark, concealed cavern of the grotto along the shore.

She quietly goes in and follows the water trail and then spies a piece of familiar blue fabric from his cape sticking out from behind a rock. She watches silently as Ivar pounds his fists against the rocks, quivering and trying to hold back his tears and chest heaving,"GREAT LUGH! I'm here in the land of Kells, so far away from home and yet it follows me here too! I just ...cannot get away from it. I cannot let go of it!"

He remembers his awkward teen years. Ivar--the Responsible, the Do the Right Princely Thing, the Leader always in control but socially he didn't fit in, like his popular, older brother Jantar--whose looks made his homeland women take notice and follow him everywhere. His brother always shirking the responsibility of the kingdom leaving Ivar to pick up after him. Although his brother is to ascend to the throne first, no way is he prepared to meet the commitments the kingdom required. Yet Ivar's parents always overlook his shortcomings.

Ivar has plans of his own, wanting to have an ambassadorship to other lands to influence global activities. His scholarly achievements would prepare him for that dream. He knows that he would not ascend the throne right away so this would be the opportunity to travel to learn of other cultures. Then destiny changes with Findar--homeland beauty that had been the royal family's friend's daughter. A family that had been together with his family, for generations.

Findar was popular and wanted to marry into Ivar's family. She wanted to be with him but he was always involved with the kingdom's duties. She felt neglected and so she decided Jantar would be her suitor--Jantar would be a catch for any girl but Jantar played the field, never a commitment to anyone. To him, she was a plaything, to Ivar he thought finally he would have someone to share his adventures and then settle down with her.

Then tragedy strikes. Findar's family blamed Ivar's youthful jealousy, romanticism killing many a youth, now taking away their beautiful daughter.

In Ivar's homeland, it is customary that the first-born can have liasions even if it is their own sibling's girlfriend or spouse.

Jantar was held blameless and terrible accusations were hurled at Ivar. However no charges could be levy on him since he was royalty and he insisted it was an accident, pushing her out of harm's way of the sword but the family and the outsiders didn't believe him. The gossips, rumors and stares became unbearable and Findar's family shunned Ivar's entire family, distressing his family members.

The stolen chalice from the kingdom is just another disaster for Ivar's family. The chalice, sacred object of their ancestral sky kingdom--purported to have come from the star people to an ancient homeland here and Ivar failed to stop the thief.

This was it for Ivar, the pressure became too much. He needed to redeem himself to his family and the kingdom's people. He vowed that he would not return home unless he had the chalice in hand. Underneath, Ivar knew in his heart he may never get a chance to redeem himself in his family's eyes. Too much damage has been done to the royal family's reputation.

Ivar closes his eye, hear Findar's screams exploding in his head, he weeps silently, slumping against the rock to the ground.

Princess Deirdre is just overwhelmed with emotions seeing Ivar's vulnerable side. She did this to him that stupid prank, feeling guilty. Feeling something so strong within her she moves closer to him. Before she thought it through, her legs carry her to his side startling him. He didn't want her or anyone to see him like this. Before he could move away, she grabs him and hugs him tightly, stroking his face,"I'm so sorry. We didn't know, we never would have done this to you. Cathbad told us everything, please forgive me Ivar." Ivar quivers trying to stop the tears. Then she does something that she never did before..she kisses him. It shocks her inside as it shocks him. It was just to be a kiss from a friend for comfort, but in an instant she is kissing him passionately and the prince did not resist. They embrace and all the boundaries of race, culture and royal standing fall away.

Unaware they are being watched by a silhouetted figure in a dark cloak who holds up a ram's head scepter and a glowing stone brightens steadily and the words,"Perfect!Dark forces of sorcery, through the power of this stone: "STONE OF LIGHT...
PASSIONS BRIGHT...
MAKES THESE TWO...
LOVERS TONIGHT"...

"As it brightens it will bring unbridled passion to these two, the glow of the stone intensify them to the forbidden love, youth cannot resist! There is no way they can resist this stone's power, the seed of temptation is already present and growing in both of them. They will succumb!"Maeve's smiling face illuminated by the eerie glow of the scepter. She watches as the two young royals get more passionate and fall together to the cave's floor.

Maeve reminiscing to herself what she was like at Deirdre's age,"I was just a year younger than you, when I took my first lover. A love I thought would last forever...from a rival family of mine that we frequently waged war on, every chance we could. Destiny led me to a chance meeting with a handsome young man in a field near Black Water Loch . He took my breath away, I falling so hard for him and he felt the same way about me. He never told me he was one of the younger brothers of our deadliest enemies. We made the same mistakes in momentary passion like you, Princess. Then he was gone, taken in battle by my own brother's sword, who found out he was my lover. I was severely punished and my heart ripped from my chest. I loved him so much. So I vowed to avenge him, I slew you, Dear Brother. I took King Alill mac Matach --King of Connacht for my husband, but he was never what my first love was and soon Princess, you too will know no pain like it. You will never forget your first. First your pain then intense pleasure, then the pain of loss Oh...you ..will..learn. So many young girls get in over their heads just to heal them, like you are right now. "As Maeve watches Deirdre's innocence fade away with Ivar, as did hers so many years ago. "Well, well Princess, this is a special time in your life, when you think you are immune to Life's winds of change. You're such a capable leader but so inexperienced about real life, especially what costs of womanhood you will be paying in your future. As female ruler of Temra, males will do whatever it takes to undermine your authority and try to usurp your throne through means you could never have imagine. Your heart needs to be strong and immune to passion's flame, which from the looks of things it is not doing such a good job at this moment. Passion is a raging firestorm leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Yes the tall, dark and handsome prince, the unattainable and forbidden one is just too much for you to overcome, as you do on the battlefield. Your heart fully open to heal your friend, but you are in way over your head ..Princess. So many young women fall for the trappings of passion and are left so empty. Your knight in shining mystic armor will not be with you much longer. Yes Ivar... take your bodily pleasure now with Deirdre but alas, your days are numbered... I'm afraid, and you'll soon be joining your Findar in eternity. Oh but don't worry, I will see that Princess will never forget you, I will give her your replacement and believe me, he will make you twice the man you are, in every way that matters! She laughs,"Now THIS is entertainment!"As she watches them in young love and smiles maliciously,"The deed is done and now the plan to bring Princess, Ivar and the other Mystic Knights to their knees!" She dematerializes and vanishes.

Princess Deirdre and Prince Ivar laying on top of his cape, just holding one another and each facing away from each other in shock! Listening to the sounds of the loud surf crashing against their senses and they come to the realization of what they have done. Not race or royalty mattered at the moment, just them-- Deirdre and Ivar, two young people caught and swept away in the tides of changing emotions. Neither planned to be in each other's royal destiny. The intensity of fear overwhelms both of them. This..is...not..suppose to happen--their sheltered worlds came crashing down around them and now...somehow, they have to pick up the shell-like, fragments of their royal masks, but the pieces no longer fit. They slowly turn their faces toward each other making eye contact, they say nothing just staring without masks, truly seeing and feeling each other for the first time. They know this cannot be allowed to happen again and they must take this to the grave with them. A momentary lapse of reason changes their lives in an instant, binding a life to a life, they were friends, now lovers. Their friendship no longer a safety net for them. This doesn't belong to either of their perceptions of destiny.

Later that evening, the King, Cathbad, Rohan and Angus are waiting patiently in the throne room worrying about Ivar and Deirdre, when both prince and princess enter with regained composures.

Ivar looks over at Rohan and Angus apologetically, "Please forgive me for my behavior earlier leaving you..."

Rohan interrupts lifting his hand saying, "Don't say another word Ivar, we understand completely. It is someone else's turn to say something,"Rohan looking with side glances at Angus who fidgeting looking down, clearing his throat."Yea right, I am not good at this..but..I didn't um know what you went through...WHY THE THE DEVIL DIDN'T YOU...he pauses,"I'm sorry Ivar".Angus looking sheepishly at him. Ivar nods quietly.

The princess dealing with her own secret experience from the previous hours, excuses herself retiring to her chamber, with Ivar's eyes following her.

The king shows fatherly concern and sympathy to him by saying, "I too understand Ivar, I've had to deal with loss and betrayal,"patting his shoulder, stunning Ivar, his own father concerned more about getting his royal Court lawyers to 'deal with the Ivar matter'. His father did not provide any emotional support or comfort over Ivar's loss of Findar. But King Conchobar looks at him with concern continues,"If you ever need to talk, I'm here."Making Ivar feel guiltier about what took place with his daughter in the grotto,"WHAT.. ..WERE...WE...THINKING DEIRDRE?" Silently to himself.

Deirdre in her chamber sits carefully on her bed, a discomfort ---a reminder of Ivar and the cave. She lays down curling up and tries to come to terms in understanding what led to this. Replaying the scene she did kiss him, why? "Do I not know...my own feelings? I comforted him, but I never meant for this to happen or did I? Her first lover--scenes and sensations surging through her, never could she imagine it would be him. We were safe..our friendship, an understanding because of our differences. But now...none of this matters. We went across all lines. Neither one of us tried to stop the other."Deirdre feeling the fear welling up in her. Something inside tells her that this is not over! Then she remembers, saying to herself, "Could the ring? This Ring of Destiny be the reason?" She putting it on her finger once again--the glowing stones, making her wonder.

Sitting on the castle steps the next day, the heat of the midday sun bearing down on the knights, Rohan wants Ivar to continue about energy sensing, since they were interrupted by Temran soldiers, the day before questioning him,"Ivar, I still don't understand how you could see me? "

Ivar explains how the mind gathers a lot of information about the outside world that is not revealed in waking state. "We focus mostly on sight and sound instead of using all our senses simultaneously.

"Feeling the energy around you--sensitivity will take some time and trained discipline. There are many mental and physical exercises that I have learned from many lands I've been to, which aid in providing me with the energy I need for strength to meet my battle challenges."

Ivar gestures with his hands and legs showing the movements--stretching exercises,"Put palms towards each other to your shoulder, relax the mind, feel the chi, Chinese word forenergyor you might have heard the word manatraveling through shoulders, rotate knees together, strengthening the ligaments and cartilage in your knees, move slowly."

Spectators start to follow his instructions, he continues"Keep building your energy, let negative thoughts go and relax your mind." Ivar addressing the growing crowd. Among them, the king, a military chieftain and Cathbad watching everyone in the courtyard following Ivar stating, "Joints kept healthy through using circular motions, like this,"Ivar moving his hands demonstrating.

Angus kidding around remarks,"Hey Ivar, new dance for Kells," twirling around with a handkerchief."

Cathbad under his breath remarks,"Angus, Fool!"

"This is not a game Angus, but energy building. Thousands of years ago warriors used this for energy,"Ivar showing seriousness.

The military chieftain accompanying the king through the courtyard shouts out to Ivar, "SO...HOW DOES THIS HELP KELL SOLDIERS?

Ivar bows to the chieftain and then turns to three Kell royal soldiers holding wooden planks upright and multi-layered bricks which Ivar like lightning strikes, demolishes the planks by hand slices and feet, and chopping through the bricks with his hand, while spectators gasp, cheer and applaud .

Rohan, Angus and Deirdre look on in amazement as did the king, chieftain, Cathbad and nearby soldiers. Angus whistles and comments,"Ivar we will take you on our next clear-cutting of Kell's forest trees! Why you can cut our trees with your bare hands!!" Angus walking over to the bricks,"Oh, I can do that!" Raising his hand mimicking Ivar and then stops short of touching the bricks feigns yowling, holding and shaking his hand faking injury, making a face which brings everyone including the king to laughter.

Ivar chuckles, shaking his head at Angus, who relieved to see that Ivar is in much better spirits.

Suddenly young villagers on horseback crash through the gates breathless, "Mystic Knights our village is under attack by Temran soldiers--the eastern border, hurry we need your help!"

All activity stops, Ivar grabs his cape and trident and the others grab their weapons to follow the villagers. Arriving at the border, a battle already in progress--villagers and Temrans clash and the knight wielding their weapons jump into the fray.

Outside the battle site, Queen Maeve and Tork on horseback spy Ivar ready to go into action. Tork immediatedly rushes in and start swinging his sword, pushing Ivar further into the brush. Seeing Ivar in trouble Princess Deirdre concerned about him now, starts to run towards him when intercepted by Temran soldiers. Battling them back, she loses sight of both Ivar and Tork.

Ivar keeping his sword up and ready to use his barbed trident, he spies another trident--iridescent in color, near a tree. He moves towards it, curious putting his own trident down for a moment, trying to grab it when suddenly, an energy net drops on him and he disappears.

Then Maeve's conjured Ivar appears, picking up the real trident, feigning to attack Tork--shooting the trident at him which then Tork takes off.

The other knights engage their weapons and fire, sending Temrans scrambling - - helmets, shields and swords left behind as spoils for the villagers. Cheers ring out.

From a distance, Queeen Maeve waits for the approaching Tork together riding back to Temra, Tork smiling,"It is done, My Queen! Let's see the Kells deal with the new and improved Ivar, especially the princess!" They galloping off with laughter.

Deirdre runs to Ivar as he emerges from the woods,"Tork got away!" The conjured Ivar brushing himself off, as he takes in his mission's face.

"Are you alright? I lost sight of you, I was coming over when Temran dogs intercepted me!"The princess showing her affection and concern for him.

"Princess, I always enjoy having you battle at my side." Winking at her and walks towards the other knights, leaving the princess glowing. She now knows at least he enjoys her companionship, so everything is fine in their relationship, after all.

When they all arrive back at the Castle, Angus picks up Ivar's blindfold faking bumping into furniture, scratching at the air asking,"Ivar, are we going back to blind man fighting again, how to get myself killed in three easy steps?

The conjured Ivar did not know what Angus was talking about because it was not in his memory, Ivar distracted saying, "Uh, maybe later Angus, I have another challenge to pursue. Princess, need to talk to you about something privately!" Walking briskly catching up to her.

Angus turns to Rohan raising his eyebrows,"Royalty!"

At the Temran castle... Queen Maeve enters the cell walking to a bound Ivar, removing his gag. Struggling attempts to free himself shouts,"You will never get away with this, believe me they'll know!"

Maeve smiles with her arms folded leaning against the cell's bars stating, "The other knights do not know you well enough and the princess so inexperienced in so many ways, will be under your replacement's spell. Such an attractive, exotic prince will turn on the charm--What lady will resist? Just think Ivar, the princess will be left pining away for her beloved Ivar my creation, not you. She will fight and destroy you to protect her beloved, thinking its you."

Ivar snorts,"What makes you think the princess would give me the time of day? She turned down so many suitors, her father needed me to be negotiator for the last one. The princess does not have any romantic interest." Concealing the truth.

Maeve looking squarely into his eyes remarks, "Except you!" Knowing what had occurred between Ivar and the princess in the grotto. Cocking her head, then stroking his cheek says, "I do admit though, Princess Deirdre picked a fine specimen." Ivar pulling his face from her hand. She smirks,"Please enjoy your accommodations while in Temra."As she replaces his gag, slamming his cell and then barks at her guards,"DON'T YOU DARE LET HIM OUT OF YOUR SIGHT!"

Back at Conchobar's Castle, Princess Deirdre in her chambers sits on her bed, lifting Ivar's ring out and placing it back on her finger. The lights from the jewels dance on her ceiling. She lays down on her pillow, holding up her hand, "This is truly unbelievable! Never could I dream,it's Fate. My destiny! We just talked a few nights ago about how everything is just so unpredictable. How am I going to tell him? What will be his reaction? Must find the proper time. He was so embarrassed when Angus was bothering him about the ring. And Aideen! The.. nerve... of.. that... pixie! Acting like I wasn't deserving or worthy of Ivar, well she'll know soon enough! So will you Angus, you will eat your words! Well Deirdre you have no chance of opening the box!"Deirdre repeating his words with a confident smile.

She gets up and places the ring on a neck chain and then suddenly she spies a string carrying a single rose, dropping down swinging back and forth outside her window. Rushing to it, looking upward there was no one at the window above, but it was Ivar's chamber. The night breezes from her window beckons her to take a walk outside and as she passes through her garden, Ivar pops out of nowhere behind startling her shouts,"Ivar!"

Ivar laughs,"Caught offguard! Well this is a change! Not good Princess, you should have sensed me!" They both laugh.

Looking up from a book, Cathbad senses something, can't zero in on it, an uncomfortable feeling--a premonition coming on, a vision--blue-hooded falcon, caged!"Ivar?" Cathbad knowing now the image represents him. Talking to himself "Strange, nothing else? Perhaps prisoner of love." Cathbad smirks goes back to his reading.

"No Cathbad, not prisoner of love... just prisoner!"The real Ivar frustrated as he tries his telepathic distress message to the old Druid. "How could I be so foolish, that trident was what got me into this mess. Got to get out of here but how? How do I warn Deirdre. What is he going to do to Kells? What's the overall plan here? If anything happens to her, what am I saying? Deirdre could handle him. She'll know the difference, she has to now that we're..Can't give up!

A Temran guard places a food tray into his cell. The guard yells, "Sorry your princely accommodations do not include the finest food that you're use to, but this is Temra's hospitality to one on the side of Kells! Har! Har!"

"Cannot be distracted, must get message to Cathbad again or...maybe Aideen, she's a sentient then she can get to Rohan and Angus!" Ivar concentrating again

Deirdre and the substituted Ivar leaving the castle grounds, find a winding, grassy path which leads them to a cave entrance. Ivar grasps Deirdre's hand to lead her inside. Deirdre feeling apprehensive, another cave but not trying to show it comments,"Ivar, how do you know it is empty, maybe there could be a dragon or two, Pyre's kin inside."

"Hmm, maybe or just two of us lone explorers on a journey to the unknown. Where's your sense of adventure?" Ivar venturing deeper into the cave, equipped with a small torch lighting up their spirits to explore further. He finds a flat layer of rocks which then lead to a pool of water, collected from water trickling down in a steady stream, down the wall. Spreading out a blanket --in it two silver cups, flask of wine and candles hidden inside. Ivar smiles at the princess as she watches him light the candles on the rocks and pouring wine, patting his hand to have her sit next to him. She thinks,"Could he sense the truth about the puzzle box. Does he know already? Keep silent, don't say anything, you must know if he is committing to a relationship or just royal obligation, because somehow he found out about the ring!"Mulling over all the questions popping up in her head. Deirdre senses commenting to herself, "Something is definitely different tonight with Ivar!"

*****

Bathed in a blue-violet-lit throne room, Maeve discusses with Tork,"We shall see how the real Ivar is missed. By now,our Ivar has swept the Princess off her feet. How can she resist him? He's what the princess fantasizes what her romance with Ivar would be like after their secret affair. The others don't really know him, he is a mystery to them, as to the princess."

"The prince has some talents which he learned from his homeland, according to our spies. The level of his skills disturb me. His knowledge could have come from only one source--Lemurian Sky Lords--highly advanced adepts."

"Lemuria, a land in the South Pacific, sinking 900,000 years ago, sent its inhabitants not only to other continents but also to higher frequency dimensional space/time where there are otherworld beings existing."

"There is an ancient prophecy which foretells of a Reunification of Earth and Sky Peoples. There will be one female from a royal household of Earth which will bond with one male of royalty from the sky kingdom. Both will have courage, power and nobility of purpose to bring about the unity of Earth and sky, so Humanity will continue to evolve"

.

"Ivar is a direct descendant of Lemuria, I can feel it. We can never let Kells have such a powerful alliance with the Lemurians. The reunification will not take place! I underestimated the Mystic Knights getting the armor and Pyre, I will not make the same mistake again!"Maeve pounding her strategy tabletop, making the metal horsemen jump closer to the Castle piece. "Ivar will be stopped!! Princess Deirdre shattered when my Ivar disappears, after she kills the real Ivar!" Maeve smiling devilishly at Tork.

Down in the prison cell Ivar tries to concentrate, focusing on Aideen rather than Cathbad this time,"She's a high frequency, energy sensitive being, easier to pick up my wavelength. Cathbad, old Druid might not be stable enough telepathically at this frequency, which is why he misinterpreted. Ivar closing his eyes calls silently, "Aideen, Aideen can you hear me? Please Aideen, Ivar, I need your help. I'm a prisoner in Maeve's castle, warn Rohan. Ivar at the castle is not me! Protect Deirdre!" Ivar tired and frustrated slumps down to the floor leaning against the wall and prays, "Please get this message...Somebody!"

In a hidden brush deep in the forest, Aideen, asleep cozily on top of a large toadstool, starts tossing and turning. She jerks up and shakes her head,"What?"Ivar in trouble? Must be a bad dream!" Her mind telling her, "No!No dream! Message heard loud and clear. Must tell Rohan!"The fairy flying off to his home. Stopping at his window, her wings fluttering wildly, thinks saying to herself,"Rohan is going to be plenty angry waking him up in the middle of the night, wee hours before dawn. But I know I must, Ivar might be in trouble! Rohan!!",Flying and hovering over his bed,"Wake up! I need to talk to you!"

Rohan stirs and his hand waving out from his blanket-covered head for Aideen to leave.

She pulls the cover from his head, yells into his ear, "Rohan, wake up now!" Then flying over to a pot, she pushes it to the floor.

Both Rohan and Angus jump out of their beds like lightning ready to tackle a would-be thief, bumping into each other half-choking the other until they realized it is each other. Then they look at the fairy confused shouting, "Aideen, what? What are you doing here? Do you know what time it is?" Rohan very annoyed, rubbing his eyes, Angus sitting back on the bed punching the pillow.

Aideen flying to him, "Listen Rohan, I got a strange message through the air--Ivar is prisoner of Maeve's, protect princess and Ivar isn't Ivar!"

"Oh Aideen, what are you talking about! We left Ivar and Deirdre back at the Castle. They're fine, now off with you, it's late, I don't have time for fairy dreams! Go back to sleep!" Rohan commenting half-awake.

Aideen annoyed, pleading tries to continue,"But Rohan..I"..

"Off with you I said, I need my sleep! Tomorrow we'll talk then!" Rohan yawns loudly, Angus laying back down too warns her, "Just wait til tomorrow, you and I will have a few words too!"

Aideen resigns, "Alright Rohan, I just thought..never mind!"As she flies off into the night.

Rohan collapses back onto the bed remarks,"Silly fairy!"Putting the pillow over his head and goes back to sleep.

The princess and Ivar return from the cave. She couldn't believe what is happening, his showering her with romance. She thought,"It is hard to believe this is the same person I deal with the Mystic Knights or when he is at the castle with Father." She never did understand the other castle maidens talking about the special men in their own lives. She never felt anything until now. The princess knows their meetings must remain secret, Kells would never understand and she herself can't understand. The relationship she had with Ivar was safe--an 'understanding'--due to race, culture and protocols of royalty, but things are different now.

She touches the ring kept on a chain well-hidden,underneath her belt, not letting Ivar see or know about it.

Back in the castle's hallway saying, "Goodnight Deirdre."Ivar kissing her hand formally, the mask of royal demeanor returned with Kell's guards and the king looking on. She curtsies and smiles with her eyes--their staged performance, disguising what went on in the cave.

The next day, Rohan and Angus helping Cathbad haul in plants for his special potions, Angus dumping them on the table and humphs,"That's it, I hope! Mystic Knights have more important things to do with their time!"

Cathbad looks up and glares at Angus commenting,"Like what!" You know you are alway so cranky, don't you get enough sleep?"

Rohan cuts in,"Speaking of sleep, Cathbad, do fairies have a habit of dreaming messages from humans when there is trouble?"

Cathbad looking seriously at Rohan with concern stating,"Yes Rohan, when we all sleep we are experiencing other realms of consciousness and we can pick up other minds' thoughts. Why do you ask?"

Rohan explains to Cathbad, Aideen's surprised night visit and what was said. Upon hearing Aideen's experience, Cathbad flashes back to the image of the previous night's vision--"Falcon-caged--Ivar, hmm, how odd Aideen and I would have similar thoughts. I will talk to her later." He commenting Rubbing his beard in wonder.

Just then Ivar and Deirdre walk in and Angus notices how cheerful both are, "Hello Cathbad, Rohan, Angus, I see Cathbad has you two busy already!"Deirdre smiling.

Rohan, swings his sword informing her, " We're finished now Princess, off to defend Kells from Maeve's soldiers!"

Ivar looks at Deirdre asking,"How about my teaching you energy sensing like Angus and Rohan?" Angus watching Deirdre's expression made him sense something is up with the two of them and decides to watch Ivar more closely. Rohan also decides to watch things, Aideen and Cathbad's experiences nagging his mind.

Maeve walking around her throne room commands, "This is a good time to attack their southern border, with Ivar not able to summon his armor--element of water, we can finish off those other knights, in no time. Tork come back with Temra's victory or else!" Maeve pacing up and down holding up her scepter the rune stone glows brightly summoning,"Dark forces of sorcery, by the power of this stone send me an army of Water Soldiers to destroy Kells!" Blue liquid spinning like a cyclone, creates a group of manifested water forms in the shape of warriors before her.

Maeve commanding,"Go to the southern border destroy all Kells, flood their villages, drown all Kells!"

The creatures disapppear and she smiles to herself saying, "No Ivar, no 'water around me' calls today! But the Kells will have plenty of water around them!" Maeve's head tilted backwards laughing.

Outside in the castle's courtyard, Deirdre is blindfolded and her wooden pole effectively catching Ivar's blows --one after the other with hers. She ducks, rolls and recovers, Ivar showing her how to judge distance on sensing immediate energy danger. At the end of the session, with both of his hands pulling her blindfold up slowly remarks, "I'm impressed Deirdre!" Looking dreamily into her eyes, "You sense me well."His hidden meaning understood by her.

Angus examining the princess' face, remarks under his breath,"Yea, too well!"

Aideen also watches the princess totally taken in by Ivar's charm, begins to remember Ivar's embarrassment with Angus and not wanting to get romantically involved with Deirdre. "What's changed? Even his open flirtation, it is not like him. I wonder..."As she flies away from the castle.

*****

In the village at the south border, two children draw water to help their mother put out the fire after supper comments,"The fire is stubborn!" Suddenly out of the bucket, water jumps out manifesting into forms--a group of water soldiers, all over the village whereever water was found, transformed into soldier-like forms, jumping out growing higher and higher then creating cascades of water falling over and coalescing together, creating everywhere--thatched- roof-tops start to collapse from the weight of the water--people screaming, running, and scrambling everywhere for safety from the sudden deluge.

Hearing all the rushing water and commotion Aideen flies over and spies the creatures--"Maeve!" She then flies back to Conchobar's Castle shouting,"Hurry Rohan, Maeve's created Water Soldiers flooding the south border villages! Hurry Rohan!" The Mystic Knights all head out to the border.

Aideen remaining behind decides saying,"I have a feeling Maeve chose creatures of water because Ivar can't summon the element of water--his trident. I know I'm right about this. I'm going to Temra to Maeve's castle. I need to know!" She hurriedly flying off. Upon arrival at Temra's castle, she makes a noise in a distant area sending the guards scurrying to investigate. She then transforming herself into a wall-crawling beetle finding her way to the prisoner's cell block, sees Ivar slumped over gagged and bound. The beetle crawls next to Ivar and as he tries to stomp it with his boot, she transforms back to her true form remarks,"Is that the thanks I get for rescuing you?"

"Mrwrr, mmrrwm", Ivar answering her, through his gag.

"Can't understand you, poor Ivar, better help so you can apologize to me more clearly."Aideen using her magic to release him from his bindings. Ivar spouting,"Well what took you so long? I sent you messages hours ago! Get me out of here Aideen! Deirdre is in danger. Maeve's planning to do away with me!" Aideen's energy magnetically shifts the padlock until it unlocks, then Ivar and Aideen steal out of the castle undetected.

Back at the border, Water Soldiers running and falling flooding the roads, houses and bridges overtaking running people and animals, sweeping them up and sending them in every direction, suddenly finding themselves swimming in terror.

Rohan first on the scene summons his armor,"Fire within me!" Followed by Deirdre, "Air above me!", Angus shouting, "Earth beneath me!"Rohan holding and shooting his Sword of Kells,"I'll turn up the heat and maybe we can get them all steamed up!" Shooting directly at the water warriors. They did not react and shot powerful, pulsed rapid fire streams of water back in his direction, knocking Rohan to the ground. He then summons Pyre, the Dragon of Dare, who flies swooping low sending flames on the water soldiers but they just jumped into ponds, wells, and anywhere there was water.

Angus steps up next with his Terra Mace with Deirdre, firing her Whirlwind Crossbow which created a water wall--tidal wave --when the soldiers gathered together, then falling on her, sweeping her into a yard, drenching her. Rohan shouting out to her,"Are you okay Deirdre?". She waves her hand while holding onto a tree trunk.

Again Angus' weapon has no effect on the creatures, so he called,"Ivar! Time to give them a taste of their own medicine! Send them to a watery grave! Ivar?"Angus notices Ivar is missing. "He was here when we arrived." Remembering. Then they see him laying on the ground, faking unconsciousness because he could not summon the real Ivar's armor.

The princess reaches him first and helps him up to take cover at higher ground before the deluge is upon them, separating them from both Rohan and Angus heading towards another direction, climbing some large boulders to get themselves also to higher ground asking,"Ivar, what happened?" The Princess so worried.

Acting his part,"Energy lull, due to my energy sensing demonstration earlier." Ivar lying softly to her. Putting his arms around her shoulders, he continues "No matter what happens I will always stay at your side Deirdre, you know that!"

The real Ivar heading with Aideen towards the direction of the creatures tells her,"I have an idea."

During times of conserving water in Ivar's homeland, reservoirs would suddenly be flash-frozen keeping water in storage, it was required their people assist in storm manifestation. Using his psionic ability in creating storms --brings clouds nearby closer together, then, with a silent, ancient chant-- lightning appears, clouds light up,with whipping winds bringing sudden cold over the Water Soldiers--freezing them suddenly in place, then Rohan and Angus using their weapons on the frozen soldiers heating them along with Pyre's dragon breath of flames, shattering them turning them all into steam destroying all of them. Both are shocked and confused when they see the real Ivar emerge with Aideen, from a different direction from where they last saw Deirdre and Ivar heading.

Ivar and Aideen quickly joining the others asking,"Where's Deirdre and the imposter?"Ivar looking desperately around.

Rohan and Angus look at each other, then suspiciously at Ivar,Rohan stating "What are you talking about? You can't be Ivar, he's with Deirdre over there somewhere. Maeve's enchantment, where's your trident? Ivar would never go anywhere without his trident!" Rohan holding his sword on Ivar and Angus adds, threatening,"Yea, and where did that storm come from Ivar? I'm freezing and look at all this ice on my armor, thanks a lot! Maeve's magic alright!" Angus brushing off the thin layer of ice on the armor.

Aideen flying excitedly over to Rohan, intervening,"No,no,listen to him Rohan. Tell them what happened Ivar, Rohan it is like I told you."Aideen insistent hovering in front of his face.

Ivar told them how the battle was staged, how he lost the trident and the switch. Both Rohan and Angus listening intently, upon hearing it, remembering Aideen and Cathbad's visions and both inwardly sensing not all was right with the other Ivar, they knew they were hearing truth. Rohan commands,"We must find Deirdre, we got separated!"Rohan starts running towards the cliff with Angus, the real Ivar and Aideen heading to the other side

P>Ivar climbing around boulders, then spies Deirdre and the fake Ivar. Attacking the imposter shouting, "Now I've got you, you phony!" Deirdre turning around quickly and yells out," What? Behind you Ivar?" As both Ivars go tumbling onto the rocks, the trident flying off between boulders, the two of them struggling on the ground. She confused and tries to understand what was happening, couldn't tell them apart.

The other knights catching up are also now confused, which one is their Ivar? The fake Ivar screams,"You! Who are you imposter, Maeve must have created you but why? Deidre shoot him! Use your battle gauntlet!"

The real Ivar struggling with the imposter shout out, "DEIRDRE LISTEN, HE'S AN ILLUSION, MAVEVE WANTED YOU TO BELIEVE HE IS ME, SO THAT YOU WOULD DESTROY ME, MISTAKING ME AS AN ILLUSION. I'M THE REAL IVAR, I WAS IMPRISONED BY MAEVE AIDEEN RELEASED ME!"

The fake Ivar spoke with confidence,"Oh real good one, I'm not falling for that, neither should you Deidre. You know me now, think of what we have together now. We never thought it could be possible. Remember what we shared--the cave, our nights together, remember our future together. He is a shadow, an illusion listen to your heart Deirdre, your heart tells you who I am. I.. AM... YOUR..... DESTINY!"The fake Ivar pleading with Deirdre.

Deirdre listens to both totally confused. Her decisiveness clouded by her emotions about Ivar and the puzzle box Ring of Destined Union, now in her possession--all the intimacies, happy laughter swims in her head. She points her armor's weapon directly at the real Ivar.

The real Ivar shouts out,"REMEMBER WHAT KING FIN VARRA SAID THERE IS NO TRUTH IN ILLUSION DEIRDRE!"

Aideen spies something hidden glowing underneath Deirdre's mystic armor--a defined energy shape of a ring, thinking to herself,"It couldn't be, could it?" Flying over for a closer look, Aideen's suspicion confirmed, she quickly flies to Deirdre instructing her,"Put on your ring then you will know!"

Deirdre yanks off the neck chain sliding the ring onto her finger, the stones coming to life with the knights looking on in disbelief, including Aideen who gasps.

The real Ivar shocked exclaims,"SWEET LUGH! It..can't be you..it just cannot be...My ring! My Lugh! You? But you're not what I thought...How it can be... ...Deirdre?"

The fake Ivar smiles calmly,"See My Love, you know I'm destined for you now. We will have the future you always wanted. We will be so happy. Kill the phony now, it's me that you want!"

Deirdre now knew the truth. She pointed her weapon at the real Ivar, then quickly turns saying, "Forgive me Ivar!"Shooting the fake Ivar--disintegrating it and shattering her illusion of love at the same time.

The real Ivar relieved remarks,"Whew, that was close Deirdre, I thought... Deirdre?" Watching her run from them in silence.

"What's gotten into her?" Angus puzzled and Rohan watching Deirdre disappear, "She saved our Ivar and the Mystic Knights!"

Aideen looking down moving towards Ivar,"She didn't want to kill her Ivar. He was everything he isn't!"Pointing at the real Ivar. She continues,"Well, he was so charming, and you're not, he was so passionate and you're not, he was crazy about her and..."

"That's enough,Aideen!" Rohan shaking his head silencing her while looking at the real Ivar's uncomfortable expression.

Aideen flies over to Ivar apologizing,"I'm sorry, I think you should see and experience it yourself. Do you have a crystal for your third-eye chakra?"

"What's a third-eye chakra? What's that? Angus puzzled and wrinkling his nose.

From around his waist, Ivar pulls out a small quartz crystal from a small, cobalt-blue, bejeweled leather pouch explaining,"There are seven main energy centers--chakras that control your body. The chakras control different parts of the body. the third eye is above the brow is called the 'mind's eye' for fortune-telling as well as perceiving the past events and sometimes used to see otherworld realms."

Aideen hovering over Ivar's crystal",Ivar, you will sense, then understand. I am empathic, I received the princess' entire emotions!"Aideen transforming herself to pure energy--sphere of blue light entering the top of the crystal giving it a bright, blue glow. Ivar then puts the tip on his center forehead, use above and between the brows--instantly explosions of images and senses fill his mindscreen. He saw the intimacies--the lovemaking in the caves, the laughter, the passion shared. The fake Ivar even took Deirdre sailing, teaching her the ropes, what she had dreamt of doing and the love shared on the boat. What she wanted to share with him. The real Ivar, now knowing all and visibly shaken, removing the crystal slowly saying,"I've seen enough Aideen."Ivar biting his lower lip and staring down at the ground.

Aideen emerges from the crystal also feeling sad. She understands now, what the princess felt when she had to destroy the Ivar, that for her was the real thing.

Rohan and Angus along with Aideen ready to leave, calls back to Ivar,"Let's go there's nothing left to do here, we're heading back to the Castle! Maeve lost!" Upon hearing Maeve's name, Ivar feels the anger churning within, especially what she has now done to Ivar and Deirdre's real relationship, grumbling loudly,"This is such a mess!!"

He spies Deirdre's neckchain--broken, left behind. He stoops down and picks it up trying to hook the broken link, but like the chain of events, the chain could not be fixed. Suddenly his mind retrieves a memory of his homeland...

Ivar dressed in dark blue-gold harem pants and a
solid gold breast plate adorned with sapphires
enters The Temple of Knowing in the ONXY Mountains
outside Arinia. The temple--dome-shaped, black and silver
silver--smooth exterior with a huge, sculptured eye
in its center. The eye-- moves slowly horizontally emitting
a bright, green beam fanning the night sky.

Inside--dark corridor emitting a hum--steps activated with
a glow-stepping on them, leading down in a spiral fashion
to large chamber doors--Before it--a large, gilded statue
of a falcon--outstretched wings spanning the door.
Falcon's eye--activated when Ivar puts in a round crystal
in its socket.

P>The doors open--an oval, green-illuminated pool of,
churning water bordered with four large gold pillars.
Suddenly, a bright orange glow rises out of it manifesting
a wraith-like appearance--THE ORACLE!

Ivar announces,"Oracle, I am Prince Ivar! I have come
to know my future!"

ORACLE:"PRINCE IVAR...

P>YOU WILL NEVER RULE IN YOUR HOMELAND.
YOUR DESTINY IS IN A FOREIGN LAND,WHERE
YOUR LEADERSHIP, BRAVERY AND PURPOSE
WILL BE FOUND. YOU WILL HAVE A SPECIAL
ROLE TO FULFILL WITH THE ONE YOU ARE
DESTINED TO MEET AND LOVE. SHE IS YOUR
TRUTH! YOU BOTH FIGHT SIDE BY SIDE, FOR
ALL THAT IS GOOD!

SEEK OUT THE ONE WHICH IS OF AIR, BUT
WEARS THE HAIR OF FIRE
WEARS THE......
..... HAIR OF.....
...........FIRE!

The memory fading out.........

Ivar's head explodes with Deirdre's voice,"Air above me!" The image of her fiery-red, glistening hair in the sunlight. Ivar brings the realization to his lips,"Deirdre!!! But she is not what I envision my destiny of love would be like ...yet, it must be. Deirdre would have definitely would have been an illusion. But if there is no truth in illusion then how is it she is the one to open my puzzle box claiming my Ring of Destined Union? Destiny! How strange is your game!"Getting up to catch up with the others saying to himself,"What am I to do? Deirdre?? How..is..this...possible?" Thinking silently to himself.

Back at Temra, Maeve shrieks,"NOOOOO!! The MYSTIC KNIGHTS TRIUMP AGAIN! AARGH!"Her scepter knocking the pieces off her strategy table. HOW COULD DEIRDRE KILL THE FIRST LOVE OF HER LIFE? SHE FELL FOR MY CREATION, HE WAS EVERYTHING SHE WANTED HIM TO BE. HOW COULD SHE DESTROY THE WRONG ONE?" Maeve raging at her latest defeat.

Tork approaches Maeve with caution commenting,"Perhaps My Queen, we underestimated Princess Deirdre to fall for fantasy. Most females fall for romantic illusion not really seeing the person, but the illusion of being in love, the idea of being in love. But Princess in not like other females, she wants truth and not easily fooled.

But you shouldn't worry my Queen. Your plan didn't entirely fail. As a result, Princess Deirdre finding out that Ivar's love was just an illusion, the real Ivar will not have a chance with her. She will avoid him, the memories, the humiliation, the illusion shattered by the fake Ivar do you think the princess will return to the real Ivar? Never, she's devastated!!"

The queen listening comments, "Maybe your right Tork."Raising her hand to her chin. "She won't be able to trust her own feelings. How does Ivar feel knowing she couldn't tell the difference? This could definitely spell the end for the prince and princess. No Earth and Sky reunion."Maeve laughs heartily at the thought.

While a troubled Ivar retreats to his chamber,Rohan, Angus and Aideen hurriedly convene in Cathbad's quarters, hashing out the recent events to the Druid. Rohan discusses the outcome of Maeve's plot."She lost but what will now happen to Deirdre and Ivar? She's never looked like that or run away from any battle. Ivar too was so stunned and he who has confronted many challenges, was totally out of it when Aideen emerged from the crystal. How could Deirdre open his puzzle box? Great Lugh! This has to be a mistake! This can't be--race, culture and each with their own royal duties to their kingdoms. Cathbad this does not make any sense!"

Cathbad combing his fingers through his long, gray-streaked hair, fixes a hard gaze at Rohan stating,"Rohan, LIFE is not always explainable. It is rarely the supposed-to-bes. This is Fate, defined by the Creator. We just accept. I believe Deirdre and Ivar are to play some special destiny to fulfill an ancient prophecy--the reuniting Earth and sky kingdoms, to fight the ever growing forces of darkness plaguing Humanity."

Rohan puzzled questions,"Sky kingdoms?"Not believing.

Cathbad telling the prophecy,"Yes not long ago in early Earth history, we Druids learned that Sky Lords from the stars came down to this world in the land of Lemuria, also known as Mu, taking care of Man and creature alike. They taught us guardianship, how we were to be caretakers for this planet. We were bestowed with powers, some that you have seen displayed as sorcery and some talents such as Ivar's. Unfortunately power corrupts and Humanity became obsessed with control and power abuse, still is, I'm afraid.

I started to suspect that Ivar is a true descendant of the Lemurians, when I saw his level of abilities. I also know now, that Maeve knows about Ivar's true heritage and that she has the same fears, an alliance for the Kells as powerful as Lemurian Sky Lords would spell doom for Temra's goal to vanquish Kells! This is why she hatched this heinous scheme. Sky Lords would not put up with her intervention, perhaps this was a test for both Deirdre and Ivar, maybe a sign that Lemurians will return to Earthplane, leaving when their continent sank hundred of thousands of years ago, taking the survivors to other worlds and dimensions. But whatever this is,rest assured it is not over! I fear Deirdre and Ivar will face many dangerous challenges, but together they must fulfill their mission if not, Earth Humanity could lose again, falling further back into darkness."

Princess Deirdre sitting on her window ledge is dazed by everything that's happened. She looks down at the ring, replaying her memories with the real Ivar and the conjured Ivar--feelings as her reality. Only now it never was --an illusion. "How could she be taken in by Maeve's illusion? How did she know I had feelings for Ivar? What a fool to think he really cared for me. I believed all of it, how Maeve must have relished her scheme, with me her willing participant! How I hate her!! Ivar, poor Ivar, I let him sit in Maeve's prison, because I was totally unable to tell the difference!"Deirdre throwing a nearby book on the ledge across the room. She remarks,"He must be so angry, all the things the conjured Ivar said to me. I just cannot face him. Everyone heard, they now know--I feel so used. What Ivar must think of me?"

She remembering the real Ivar's voice at the discovery of wearing his ring... "SWEET LUGH! YOU! IT CANNOT BE! YOU'RE NOT WHAT I THOUGHT..." how those words hit her like ice water.

Taking off his ring and placing it on another chain, swinging it like a pendulum, She asks herself,"How can I be his destiny, when I couldn't even tell him apart from an illusion? Destiny--a path of unturned stones a journey to what?" She wondered."What to do with this?" Twirling the chain, blurring the ring. "If I had truly chosen with my heart, would I have killed the real Ivar?" The thought making her shudder she remarks,"So.. this is what love..... feels like?"Pursing her lips in distress, the ring slipping off the chain into her lap, while she gazes at the waxing crescent moon rising in the east.

Above her in another window, sits a confused prince staring at the same moon thinking about his harrowing experience and the discovery of his ring wearer. "Great Lugh! All is unfolding as the Oracle foretold. But I cannot understand how this can be. I know now I am here for a larger purpose--a Mystic Knight, I am to repay my debt to Rohan to help Kells defeat Temra then I would retrieve my kingdom's chalice from Maeve but now...this!" His glowing ring on Deirdre's finger flashes into his mind. He reminding himself, "The box opens only once and only the true ring wearer activates its stones!"

Ivar rests his chin and hands on his upraised knee stating,"This just cannot be happening! It's impossible...Deirdre? No..We cannot--our backgrounds, our duties, What am I to do?"Totally frustrated closing his eyes. "We are royalty! Royalty always make the proper decision!" Ivar remembering Deirdre's comment. Ivar answers the memory,"Do we, Deirdre?" Thinking about what happened between them in the grotto. Then Rohan's voice coming back to haunt him.."You should never leave a stone unturned. You never know, the one rock you didn't pick up to turn over might just be the one, you could miss your path..." Ivar answers, "I'll not make that mistake again Rohan!"

Ivar pondering remarks,"Wait,I didn't pick up this stone along my destined path--not giving Deirdre the ring myself, and yet the stone was turned over by Deirdre anyway and I am still on the same path. How can this be? If I should refuse to pick up the next stone along it, maybe jumping off the path entirely, what will befall me? Will it happen again this way? Can I control my own destiny? But... if I decide to stay on this path...."
