Mystic Knights Fan Fiction - One Chance

One Chance

Rohan walked quietly through the woods surrounding Kells castle. He had been thinking about Deirdre again. Angus kept telling him that he needed to get his mind off of the princess, since she was marrying Garrett and all. But Rohan couldn't seem to leave well enough alone.

Ever since she had agreed to marry Garrett, he had been throwing things around in his mind. He wanted to tell her how he felt about her, but he couldn't. Rohan knew somewhere in his mind that Deirdre would just laugh at him and he didn't want that. He had always respected the Princess, even as a child. He didn't want to ruin that.

Rohan sighed as he made his way toward the castle. It was Garrett and Deirdre's wedding day and Rohan was to be present as Garrett's best. He didn't want to do it, but Garrett had saved his skin more than once, so he felt that he owed the Prince that much.

The castle was crowded with happy patrons. The wedding was the talk of Kells. Everyone was so happy for the couple. Well, almost everyone. Rohan strolled down the halls of Kells castle, trying to make up his mind on what he wanted to do. He knew that he needed to tell Deirdre what he was feeling. He didn't want her to marry Garrett if she didn't truly love him. And he knew that she didn't love him. This wedding was only to make her father and Garrett's father happy, nothing more.

Rohan turned a corner on his way to the throneroom. He was looking at his feet, lost in thought, paying no attention to where he was really going.

He stepped on the slippered foot before he had realised that it was even there.

"Ow!" Deirdre yelped.

Rohan snapped his head up to look at her. "I'm sorry, Deirdre."

"it's all right, just next time watch where you're going." She smiled at him as she moved to go around him.

Rohan watched her move. She was clothed in a beautiful white gown, much like the ones she wore in court. This one though showed her figure much better than the others that she wore. He smiled as he watched her. He imagined what it must be like to hold her in his arms, to kiss her, to make her his.

"Deirdre, wait." Rohan grabbed her arm before she got too far away from him.

She turned to look at him. There was something in his eyes, something she hadn't seen since they were children.

"What is it, Rohan?"

He smiled at her and pulled her into a small hallway off of the main corridor. "I can't let you marry Garrett."

Her mouth dropped open. "Why ever not?"

"Because," He started. This was going to be harder than he thought.

"Because what?"

He looked her in the eyes. Rohan knew that he had loved her since they were children, but always knew that the differences in status would keep them apart. Even if Rohan was Draganta, it didn't mean that he had any real chance to be with her. But regardless, he couldn't let her marry Garrett.

"Well?" Deirdre prodded him.

Rohan snapped out of his reverie. "I...I..." Instead of finishing his sentence, he reached out to her. Sliding his hand behind her neck, he pulled her forward and kissed her.

The shock in Rohan touching her so intimately, froze Deirdre in place, but once his lips met hers, she melted into him.

They kissed for several long moments before parting.

"I'm sorry, Princess." Rohan looked to the floor, ashamed that he had taken such liberties with her.

She smiled and gently touched his face. "Don't be."

He looked up at her and found her smiling happily. "I love you, Deirdre. I always have. I can't bear the thought of you marrying Garrett."

"I won't marry him, now that I know how you feel." She gently took his hand in hers. "All you had to do was say something."

He gripped her hand tightly, knowing finally that he would have what he wanted most in the world.
