Chapter 4, Part 3: Ruins

About half an hour later, the trio approached the broken outer entrance of Day’ai’thu Lai’n’du. The rusted gates hung feebly from their hinges, and gave the impression that, if they were touched, they would disintegrate in an instant. RK paused to study the gates more closely. After a moment or two, she tentatively reached a hand out and poked at the ancient structures.

Instantly there was a loud (CRASH! BANG!) as the gates tumbled downward in a cloud of dust and debris. RK yelped in surprise and just barely escaped the falling metal. Deygo spun around and shot a dark energy blast in the direction of the gates, not realizing that it was only RK and not an actual threat. {{Author’s note: I don’t know, RK can be pretty scary sometimes. ^_~}} “Ack!” she shouted as the blast missed her by mere inches. It sizzled into the pillar directly beside RK’s head.

Slowly, she turned to look at the hole in the post, her eyes wide with disbelief that she was still alive. Recovering slightly from her shock, she turned towards Deygo to give him what for. “Deygo! You nearly killed me! I oughtta come over there and…” But her tirade was cut off by a creaking sound that gradually grew louder and more persistent. Then the pillar that had been hit by Deygo’s assault started to tip over. “No, no, no!” RK shouted as she jumped over to it and tried to hold it up.

“Get outta there, you idiot!” Mars yelled at her friend.

RK looked up and saw that her efforts were doing absolutely no good. She decided to try a different tactic. “Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!” she hollered as she threw her hands in the air and ran away. The post collapsed to the ground, followed quickly by the rest of the wall in a domino-like effect. Mars and Deygo watched in astonishment as the entire wall around the city crashed to the ground in a dull roar accompanied by the overtones of RK screaming.

When the dust subsided, Deygo turned around, fury raging in his eyes. “Where the Hay’loo ai’ray’loo tute, you Day’mu’neh ufe Kai’oo’seh!!”1 he demanded, lapsing into Nay’weh Spay’chu in his anger. Then he hesitated. RK was no where to be seen. He narrowed his eyes as he looked around for her.

“Dude,” Mars said. “Look up.” She was pointing up a tree. Deygo looked up and spotted RK trying to hide in the leaves.

“Eep!” she squeaked. “You don’t see me! I’m a bird! See? Tweet! Tweet!” She flapped her arms in a desperate and ridiculous manner.

Deygo glared at her a moment, then thrust his hand forward, lifting RK out of the tree and into the air using his powers.

“Aahh! Mars! Do somethin’! He’s gonna kill me!”

“Uh-uh, dude. YOU touched the gates, YOU deal with the repercussions.”

Deygo glowered at RK as he brought her on a level with him.

“Please, please, please, please don’t hurt me! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to do anything! Really!” RK looked piteously at Deygo.

“You,” he said in a quiet voice that somehow achieved much more menace than should have been possible. “You have absolutely destroyed any chance whatsoever of approaching undetected. Not to mention, playing a key role in the destruction of a large part of Oraton. For that, you shall suffer the consequences.”

RK whimpered.

An evil smile formed on Deygo’s face as he lifted his free hand to use his powers on RK.
