“Get the hell off me, dude,” RK said, while kicking Mars off of her. Mars got up and looked around them.
“Uh, dude, slight question…”
“Wot?” RK growled as she stood up and brushed herself off.
“Where’s the cabin?”
RK stopped, then slowly looked up and noticed that yes indeed, the cabin did seem to have disappeared. “What the fuck did you do??” She shouted accusingly at Mars.
“ME? I didn’t do anything! You’re the one that wanted me to read from that damned book!"
“Yah, but you’re the one that tripped and sent us thru the doorway!”
“Psh, like you wouldn’t a’ fell.”
“Wotever. Where the hell are we, anyway?”
“How should I know? Looks like we’re where the cabin was, only there’s no cabin.”
“Yah, but listen, dude. You hear anything? Shouldn’t there be crickets or something?”
Mars paused and listened. RK was right, it was terribly quiet for a forest.
“And look at the sky,” RK continued. “It’s light out, and, well, the sky isn’t exactly its normal color.” RK pointed up toward the sun that radiated above them. It glowed a bright bluish-purple, and the sky, instead of its regular blue, was almost a violet color.
“Wot the hell…?” Mars murmured under her breath. “Somehow, I don’t think we’re exactly where we’re s’posed ta be.”
“Ya think? What gave you that idea?” RK said jeeringly.
“Shut-up, dude. You’re here, too, ya know. Let’s not bicker and try to place blame and kill each other like every stereotypical sci-fi movie we’ve ever seen.”
RK paused and looked at Mars. Then she snorted and nodded her head in acquiescence. “Fine. You really think something like that happened to us in that cabin?”
“What else could it be?” Mars asked. “We were there, I read from book, we went through doorway, we are here, cabin is gone, and the world looks funky. Sounds like something supernatural to me.”
“You know, as whacked as this is, it’s kinda kewl.” RK looked around, studying her surroundings more thoroughly. Mars stared in disbelief at her friend for a moment, then smiled.
“Yah, it kinda is, isn’t it? Well, we’re not gonna figure anything out standing about here. Shall we go?”
“Sure. Looks like there might be some kind of path over there.” RK was pointing at what looked like an old trail.
“Let’s go, then,” Mars agreed, as the two of them headed off into the woods.
