Disney and its lead star Mickey Mouse have been around for decades. Walt Disney started off with nothing and in time made an Empire. Now Disney owns multiple theme parks, television stations, movie studios, and merchandise stores all over the world. Disney has become a huge success and is known world-wide for its magic. Disney has been around for quite a while now and is bound to be hanging around for a long time to come.

TIMELINE

  • 1922- Walt Disney begins producing "Laugh-O-gram" animated films
  • 1923- "Laugh-o-gram" works on Alice and Wonderland short films
  • 1920s- Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio is put together by Walt and brother Roy
  • 1928- Mickey and Minnie Mouse debut in silent film "Plane Crazy"
  • 1928- "Steamboat Willie" debuts and is the first cartoon with a soundtrack
  • 1929- Walt Disney Productions, Limited is incorporated
  • 1929- Walt Disney Enterprises is formed to handle all the merchandise
  • 1930- The first Mickey comic strip is published
  • 1930- Mickey Mouse dolls are produced
  • 1932- Walt Disney receives an Academy Award for Mickey Mouse creation
  • 1933- "Mickey Mouse Magazine" is first published
  • 1933- Walt Disney Productions is granted a trademark of Mickey for books and comic strips
  • 1936- "Mickey Mouse Weekly" is published in Britain
  • 1937- "Snow White" debuts and is the first full length feature film for Disney
  • 1940s- Walt Disney Studio makes propaganda and training films for the military during World War II
  • 1940- Walt Disney Production offers stock shares in their company
  • 1949- Walt Disney Music Company is formed
  • 1954- "Disneyland" television show premieres (and ran for 29 years)
  • 1955- Theme park Disneyland opens in California
  • 1955- "Mickey Mouse Club" airs for the first time on television
  • 1966- Walt Disney passes away
  • 1971- Theme park Disney World opens in Orlando, Florida
  • 1980- Kodak signs a 10 year contract with Disney to sponsor EPCOT
  • 1980- First minor live-action film on videocassette is released
  • 1981- Disney TV shows cancelled
  • 1982- EPCOT Center opens
  • 1983- Tokyo Disneyland Theme Park opens
  • 1983- Disney Channel airs on television
  • 1983- Walt Disney Pictures is formed and Touchstone Pictures is created for older viewers
  • 1984- Touchstone Pictures debuts its first film "Splash"
  • 1985- Movie company Hollywood Pictures is created
  • 1986- Disneyland stays open year round
  • 1987- First Disney Store opens in California
  • 1988- Disney-MGM STudios films first movie
  • 1989- Pleasure Island and Typhoon Lagoon open at Walt Disney World resort
  • 1990- MGM Studios debuts in Paris
