![]() SPECIAL FEATURE |
|---|
What follows is a basic overview of all the games that were released for Virtual Boy in North America. For added info about the following games, check the reviews of each game. Some may not have reviews, however.
![]() Mario's Tennis, although not very original, was a fun and challenging game.
|
|---|
![]() The 3-D graphic capabilities of Virtual Boy were greatly used in this game. You can move left, right, forward, and backward. |
|---|
Originally called Mario's Dream Tennis, this game was not expected to be the pack-in game for Virtual Boy.
Mario's Tennis was at first place only once on the Nintendo Power (magazine) Virtual Boy Top 5.
Even though Mario's Tennis would have been a great multi-player game, Nintendo chose to keep it as a one-player game.
![]() Galactic Pinball was the first action game for Virtual Boy.
|
|---|
![]() This game used the 3-D graphics of Virtual Boy very well. |
|---|
Originally called Space Pinball, this game was at first place only once on the Nintendo Power (magazine) Virtual Boy Top 5.
On one of the bonuses of one of the "pinball machines" in Galactic Pinball, you get to play a Space Invaders-type game. The theme of the bonus game is based on Metroid, and you play as Samus Aran (or actually, you control her ship).
![]() Teleroboxer introduced an in-your-face experience.
|
|---|
![]() Although challenging, this game was not very much liked by Virtual Boy owners. |
|---|
Originally called Teleroboxing, this game was never on the Nintendo Power (magazine) Virtual Boy Top 5. Not many people liked it.
![]() This game was the first to use wire-frame (vector) graphics. |
|---|
This was the first game for Virtual Boy that was not developed by Nintendo. T&E Soft developed this game.
![]() The American version of this game had realistic-sized players. |
|---|
![]() This was the first (and only) team-sports game for Virtual Boy. |
|---|
This was the first Virtual Boy game to be published by a 3rd-party company: Kemco.
The Japanese version of this game had short baseball players, typical of other Japanese baseball games.
![]() Mario Clash had a Mario Bros.-type of feel.
|
|---|
![]() This game really used the 3-D graphics well. |
|---|
Originally, this game was supposed to be an action/adventure game like most of Mario's other games. However, Nintendo surprised a lot of people when they found out that Mario Clash was really just an updated 3-D version of Mario Bros., the original arcade game.
![]() This game had an over-head view, instead of a side view. |
|---|
This game is the closest thing to an RPG/Adventure game that Virtual Boy offers. It has major enemies, puzzles, and each character has his own special abilites. However, because of a lot of action being in the game, the game is considered an action/adventure game. And it is one of the few act/adv games for Virtual Boy.
![]() Golf had some of the best graphics of any Virtual Boy game.
|
|---|
![]() Although there wasn't much replay value in this game, it was a very fun game. |
|---|
T&E Soft is known for its golf games on a number of different systems (non-Nintendo systems included). Even though this game is only limited to one course, T&E Soft's magic still shines through.
This is also the first Virtual Boy game to use 16 megabits of memory.
(Sorry about the blurry pictures. These are the only ones I could get.)
![]() Although not a normal Bomberman game, Panic Bomber was still very fun. |
|---|
This was the first game for Virtual Boy that was developed by Hudson Soft. Nintendo bought the rights to the game so that it would sell easier.
![]() This game is like Gradius or R-Type in 3-D. |
|---|
![]() The ship, you fly, can move up and down between to "layers", thus making good use of Virtual Boy's 3-D graphics. |
|---|
This game's rights were also bought by Nintendo, to make it easier to sell.
![]() Wario Land, although not very long, was a fun and challenging game. ![]() This was the first fully-realized game for Virtual Boy.
|
|---|
![]() Wario Land used the 3-D graphics capabilities of Virtual Boy much like Mario Clash did.
|
|---|
This is the other action/adventure game for Virtual Boy. And it is one of the few games for Virtual Boy that take longer than one hour to complete. That's why you can save your game.
Wario Land was at first place 9 times on the Nintendo Power (magazine) Virtual Boy Top 5.
The only disappointment of this game was that it was too short. Other than that, this game is great. And every Virtual Boy owner should have it.
|
No picture for this game. Of course, you're probably not missing much. |
|---|
This game, by Ocean (who does very well at movie-based games), really bombed. To a lot of people, this game is considered the worst game for Virtual Boy. It has no challenge and is completely boring. But, after a bad movie like Waterworld, what would you expect?
![]() This was the first, and only, 2-player game for Virtual Boy. |
|---|
This was the first game for Virtual Boy that was a two-player game. Although the players have to take turns playing, it is still fun to play against a friend.
This is also the first game that Nester (a comic-character from Nintendo Power magazine) stars in.
![]() This is truely Tetris in 3-D. ![]() Check out these great 3-D effects! |
|---|
As far as I know, this was the very first three-dimensional Tetris game, ever. The game is very challenging, fun, and addictive (in a good way).
This was also the last Virtual Boy game to be released in North America.
