PAK PLANNING ANOTHER KARGIL: ALERT FROM LONDON

From Our Delhi Bureau

NEW DELHI: In a most sensational and alarming report, India's external intelligence agency RAW (Research and Analysis Wing, has warned the Prime Minister that the senior Pakistan Army commanders are plotting yet another Kargil-type aggression.

The Indian attache in London has an "authentic" secret report about the plot to mount the assault which may take place after Pakistan President Gen. Pervez Musharraf returns from the summit with Atal Bihari Vajpayee in India, a top source in the Government disclosed.

The report says the assault preparations are in advance stage and hence it may take place even before Musharraf's arrival in India on July 14. The RAW report, however, says it could not be ascertained if the assault plot was being hatched under direct guidance of Musharraf or without his knowledge by some of the senior commanders not happy with his acquisition of powers.

Based on the inputs gathered from London, United States and Pakistan, RAW is understood to have urged the Prime Minister to give a second thought to the royal reception being planned for Musharraf as the Agra summit may become another fiasco like his Lahore bus trip whose significance was lost in the Kargil conflict.
