Fished a club tournament at Monroe this weekend. Fishing was pretty tough. It was very windy and the water was stained. I caught 3 short fish & 2 keepers on FireTiger Rattln-Traps. The biggest fish was 4 1/4 lbs the other was 2lbs. These 2 fish won the tourney for me. The Lake was so rough that just about every boat was in Moore's Creek, Sugar Creek, or Ramp Creek. These shorelines were pounded by hundreds of boats in 2 days. All the fish I caught or had on (I missed 2 nice fish on Saturday) were on Firetiger Rattln-Traps and I was fishing in shallow water with some type of wood or brush. Both of the keeper fish were caught in the Paynetown Bay. The water temp here was 62 degrees, the warmest we could find on the lake. I can't complain this was my first time to Monroe & I won the tourney. Good luck & good fishing. ROID MAN

I went fishing Monday and have not been able to make report until today..I started fishing at 8:30 and caught first fish (keeper)at 10:30. Limited out at 1:45. All fish about 2lbs, nothing great, but good healthy fish. I caught all my fish on the warm sides of the coves in 1-4 feet of water half way back or better..The water is really dirty for some reason and caught all fish on shallow running firetiger crankbait fished real slow. The water in the idle zone is really colored and not much better down to Ramp Creek, but it is slightly clearer the farther down the lake you go. No other bites. All the fish were on wood and only one fish out of an area then move on. Have heard news that the Corp. of Eng. is not going to let the lake get as high for as long this year because of the farmers crop loss for the last 3 years..This will mean we may have some vegetation to fish this year...Russ

Current water temperatures range from 54 degrees in main lakes areas to 59 degrees in shallow water areas. Bass are still in pre-spawn mode with some moving up into shallower water areas.

Fished Freeman on Wed. air temp. 65 to 74, Weather cond.: sunny with wind 15 to 30 mph. Strated the day(11:00 a.m.) cranking and jerkbaiting rocky main lake points, caught lots of short buck bass(large and smallmouth). went out on the next breakline (5'/10'), with no bites. Went back to the bank and started to connecting with the larger fish. Run and gunned from the dam to the river, just hopping points, Quit at 5:00pm and had 14 bass ,4 keepers( 2 largemouth Small keepers)( 2 Smallies, a 2 pounder and a nice 3 pounder). All fish caught on cranks. Good luck, Steve

Fished Lake Freeman Sunday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Started out on main lake fishing docks. Through jigs, lizards, crankbaits, and rogues, but no takers. Moved out to main lake points with a c-rig, but still no takers. Wind started to raised up a bit so decided to move back into the canal areas. Started throwing tubes, skipping up under the docks, and was finally seeing a little action. My partner lost one real good smallie when it raised completely out of the water, hooked it in about 2 feet of water, off of big chunk rock bank. He then caught a 10 inch largemouth, in about 1 foot of water. I finally got to enjoy a little action when i enticed a 15 inch largemouth from under a dock. Two fish were taken on brown zoom liard with chartruse tail, and one was taken on a chartruse tube. Not a very good day, but nice to be out. Godspeed..David

Fished from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Very windy and cloudy. Caught several fish on deep diving suspending crankbait. My buddy probably caught 12 on a black Berkly power worm. Most bites came off points in deeper water. The fish were all in the 10"-15" range....Randy

4/9/99

Water Temperature = 65

Water Clarity = 1 foot

Fished from 1:00 to 6:00. Caught about 35 bass. 9 were >14 inches. All fish were caught in 0-4 feet of water with chartruese Baby 1-. Positioned boat well off of bank and made long casts right up to the bank. All keepers came from north end of lake along in coves on the east bank. Most came from shallow points and partially submerged bushes. Key on laydowns and bushes, several contained two or three fish apiece. I was using a slow retrieve although the fish seemed very aggressive and may have hit a quicker one. Catch/Release for fun.

Friend and I got out for the first time this year(in boat). Fished from about 8:30 to 1:30. Nice out until about noon, then the clouds rolled in and wind picked up. Couldn't get a hit until about 11:30. I caught about a 2 lb largemouth on a pumpkinseed lizard. Got him about 7 feet off the bank way up on the northern part of the lake. Friend got his 2 1/2 lb'er just maybe 2 minutes later just down the bank on a green skirted grub. Got two more hits a little farther down the bank then they shut off. Seen three other fish caught on the day and that was it. Weather is picking up great this week and this weekend could be the start...Jason
