Shiny Things

I like shiny things, a lot, ask anybody that knows me. If I see something shiny, it's likely I might be entranced for hours, especially if the shiny happens to be moving or have pretty rainbow colors or both. In fact my Sara has threatened to stick a shiny thing to her forehead so I don't get bored with her (not likely)

Now SOME people think that having an obsession with shiny objects is a sign of a simple mind. Not true. You see once upon a time there were many many shinys and they were in the sky all the time. Ancient mankind learned that these shinies were very powerful and when asked nicely they might be persuaded to help out a human, if they were in the mood. Now any human could sometimes convince the shinys to help them but there were some people who had a special affinity with the shinys and would sit communing with them for hours. Because they were friends with the shinys, the shinys would do a lot more for them than they would for your average human who only thought to talk to them when they wanted something. These humans of course became very powerful in the ancient world. They would never get lost and didn't have to worry about losing they're socks. (well they didn't really wear socks, but if they had, they never would have lost them.) They could talk to each other over long distances and make really neat sand castles. Sometimes, if the shinies really liked them they could fly.

That's the way things were for hundreds of years and then, for some reason beyond mere human understanding, the shinys moved away. They no longer sit clear in the sky all day for everyone to see, and at night they're so far away they look like stars. Most people have forgotton that they ever existed. But sometimes they come back, in disguise, and talk to their old friends, and new friends they've continued to make. Personally when I look up I can see them dancing around still, but most people can't.

so next time you see a friend staring into space or at a shiny bit of something, remember they're probbably talking to an immensly powerful being that doesn't want anything to do with you, so leave them alone.
