Caraf groes yr addfwyn Iesu

(Crist a'i Groes)
Caraf groes yr addfwyn Iesu,
  Lle dioddefodd er fy mwyn;
Baich y farn
      oedd yn fy llethu,
  Mynnodd Ef Ei Hun ei ddwyn:
    Hawdd i minnau
  Ddwyn y groes
        a'i ddilyn mwy.

Er y dirmyg a'r gwaradwydd,
  Er y gwaed a'r hoelion dur,
Gogoneddus yw fy Arglwydd
  Yn Ei wynder dwyfol bur;
    Gwridodd heulwen
  Yn Ei lewyrch sanctaidd Ef.

Ni omeddodd Ei ddyrchafu
  Ar y groes i olwg byd;
A'i haeddiannau yn ehangu
  Pyrth y nef
        fu 'nghau cyhyd;
    Dal i esgyn
  Mae dynoliaeth ar Ei ôl.

Gwelaf yno ddwyfol haeddiant
  Yn distewi hawliau'r nef;
Clywaf yno sŵn maddeuant
  Yn yr Iawn a dalodd Ef;
    Rhaid i gariad
  Gael ymglymu wrth y groes!

Mae fy mywyd yn Ei farw,
  Mae fy ngwynfyd yn Ei loes;
A diolchaf am fy nghadw
  Ar fy neulin wrth y groes;
    Tyn yn fuan
  Gyrrau'r ddaear ato'i Hun.

[Mesur: 878747]

(Christ and his Cross)
I love the cross of the gentle Jesus,
  Where he suffered for my sake;
The burden of the judgment
      that was oppressing me,
  He insisted on bearing it Himself:
    Easy for me
  To carry the cross
        and follow him evermore.

Despite the scorn and the shame,
  Despite the blood and the steel nails,
Glorious is my Lord
  In His pure, divine brightness;
    The sunshine blushed
  At His holy brilliance.

He did not refuse to be lifted up
  On the cross to the view of the world;
And his merits widening
  The portals of heaven
        that were closed so long;
    Continuing to ascend
  Is humanity after Him.

I see there divine merit
  Silencing the claims of heaven;
I hear there the sound of forgiveness
  In the Ransom He paid;
    Love had to
  Get fastened to the cross!

My life is in His dying,
  My blessedness in in His throes;
And I give thanks for keeping me
  On my knees at the cross;
    He soon shall draw
  The corners of the earth to Himself.
