Ymgrymwn ger dy fron

(Gadael yr Eilunod)
Ymgrymwn ger dy fron
  Ti Dduw ein tadau;
O llanw'r oedfa hon
  Â'th ddylanwadau:
O blith teganau ffôl
I wres dy gynnes gôl
O galw ni yn ôl
  O'n holl grwydriadau.

Allorau fwy na mwy
  Gaed ar ein llwybrau,
A rhoesom arnynt hwy
  Ein hebyrth gorau:
Ond trodd addoli'r byd
Yn golled drom i gyd;
Siomedig iawn a drud
  Yw'r eilun dduwiau.

O Dduw, tosturia nawr,
  A maddau'r camwedd;
Er mwyn dy enw mawr
  Dod in ymgeledd;
Â'th Ysbryd cadw ni
O flaen dy allor di,
Gan gofio Calfarî
  Nes delo'r diwedd.

(Leaving the Idols)
We bow before thee,
  Thou God of our fathers;
O flood this meeting
  With thy influences:
From the midst of foolish trinkets
To the heat of thy warm bosom
O call us all back
  From all our wanderings.

More and yet more altars
  Are found on our paths,
And we have laid on them
  Our best sacrifices:
But worship of the world has turned
Into heavy loss altogether;
Very disappointing and costly
  Is the image of our gods.

O God, have mercy now,
  And forgive our trespsses;
For the sake of thy great name
  Give us help;
With thy Spirit keep us
Before thine altar,
Remembering Calvary
  Until the end comes.
tr. 2025 Richard B Gillion
