Y ddeddf sy'n erchi,
    a dweud beth yw
Ein dyledswyddau ni i'n Duw;
  Ond 'fengyl ddengys i'n pa le
  Cawn nerth i wneud ei 'wyllys e'.

Y ddeddf datguddiad i ni ddwg
O'n llygredd a'n calonnau drwg;
  'Does ond y 'fengyl ddweud lle mae
  Grâs, a maddeuant i'n glanhâu.

Cyhoedda'r ddeddf felldithion maith
Yn erbyn dyn o's cwymp un-waith;
  Ond yn y 'fengyl Crist y sy'
  Yn maddeu'n holl euogrwydd du.

Ni chais fy enaid dynnu'n hwy
Fywyd o'r ddedf, na chysur mwy;
  I'r 'fengyl rhêd am obaith gwiw;
  Y dyn a gredo hwn fydd byw.

Mae'r ddeddf yn eglur ddweyd beth yw

  A gredo ynddo hwn fydd byw.

'Tis the law that commands,
    and tells what are
Our duties to our God;
  But the gospel shows us how
  We may get strength to do his will.

The law a revelation to us brings
Of our corruption and our evil hearts;
  Only the gospel tells where is
  Grace, and forgiveness to cleanse us.

The law announces vast curses
Against a man if he fall once;
  But in the gospel it is Christ that is
  Forgiving all our black guilt.

My seeks not to draw
Life from the law, nor comfort any more;
  To the gospel run for worthy hope;
  The man who believes, he shall live.

The law is clearly saying what are
Our duty to God;
  But the gospel says where
  We may get strength to do his will.

    or life any more;
  To Christ I shall flee for worthy hope;

And shows how vile our hearts have been;

What curses doth the law denounce

  But in the gospel Christ appears,
  Pard'ning the guilt of num'rous years.

My soul, no more attempt to draw
Thy life and comfort from the law.
  Fly to the hope the gospel gives;
  The man that trusts the promise lives.
