Codwn y groes mae'r Iesu'n galw

Codwn y Groes; mae'r Iesu'n galw,
  Gyda'i dyner lef:
Gwahodd y mae drwy'r anial garw,
  O bellderoedd Nef:
Codwn y groes, a dysgwn beunydd,
  Wrando'i eiriau mwyn,
Iesu Ei hunan rydd mewn llawenydd
  Inni nerth i'w dwyn.

    Ar ffordd y Groes mae'r goron,
      Bywyd a mwynhad,
    Daw â'r pererinion,
      Oll i Dy eu Tad,
    Daw â'r pererinion,
      Oll i Dy eu Tad.

Codwn y groes: ni raid ei chario
  Ond ychydig iawn;
Buan yr â pob ymdrech heibio,
  Buan daw'r prydnawn:
Melus fydd colli'r holl ofidiau,
  Pan ddaw'r awr i ben;
Melus, ar ol y byd a'i groesau,
  Fydd y nefoedd wen.

Tôn: Codwn y Groes (Daniel Protheroe 1866-1934)

Let us take up the Cross; Jesus is calling,
  With his tender cry:
Welcoming he is through the rough desert,
  From the extremities of Heaven:
Let us take up the Cross, and let us learn daily
  To listen to his soothing words,
Jesus Himself give in joy
  To us strength to bear it.

    On the way of the Cross there is the crown,
      Life and enjoyment,
    Shall bring the pilgrims,
      All to their Father's House,
    Shall bring the pilgrims,
      All to their Father's House.

Let us take up the Cross: we must carry it
  Only a very litte;
Soon every effort will pass,
  Soon will come the afternoon:
Sweet it will be to lose all griefs,
  When the hour comes to pass;
Sweet, after the world with its crosses,
  Will be the blessed heavens.
