a Rheswm cnawdol ei ddarostwng, neu Ben-arglwyddiaeth Gras.)
Bu awr a Crist a lawenh'odd,
Gan ddweud mewn gorfoleddus fodd;
"Dad, diolch it', alluog Iôr,
Arglwydd y ddaear, nef a'r môr.
Diolch i'th nerth a'th gariad di,
Sy'n llwyddo fy athrawiaeth i;
Gwneud plant mewn deall,
brofi blas,
A dysgu maint
d'anfeidrol ras.
Ond y gogoniant hwn i gyd
Cuddiedig yw rhag doethion byd;
Y diafol yn eu dallu mae,
A'u balchder
allan sy'n ei gae.
Dad, felly mae, can's rhyngai bodd
I ti arfaethu'r cyfryw fodd;
Dy hoffder di yw tynnu i lawr
Y beilchion a'r gwatwarwyr mawr.
Ni 'nebydd neb o'r Tad yn iawn,
Ond ddysgodd gan y Mab yn llawn;
Ac ni dderbynir y Mab rhad
Yn iawn,
ond lle datguddio'r Tad."
Am hyn moliannwn Arglwydd nef,
Sy'n rhoi ei ras lle mynno ef;
Ac ni rydd cyfri'i ddynion chwaith
O'i arfaeth ddwyfol nac o'i waith.

and fleshly Reason subdued, or The Overlordship of Grace.)
There was an hour when Christ rejoiced,
While saying in a jubilant mood:
"Father, thanks to thee, mighty Sovereign,
Lord of the earth, heaven and the sea.
Thanks to thy strength and thy love,
Which is prospering my teaching;
Making children in understanding,
experience a taste,
And teaching the extent
of thy immeasurable grace.
But all this glory
Is hidden from the wise of the world;
The devil is blinding them,
And their pride
which is shutting them out.
Father, thus it satisfies thee
To plan such a will;
Thy pleasure is to pull down
The proud and the great mockers.
No-one recognises the Father rightly,
Unless taught by the Son fully;
And no-one receives the gracious Son
Rightly,
except where the Father reveals."
Therefore let us praise the Lord Master,
Who is giving his grace where he will;
And he will give no account to men either
Of his divine will nor of his work.

and carnal reason humbled; or, The sovereignty of grace.)
There was an hour when Christ rejoiced,
And spoke his joy in words of praise;
"Father, I thank thee, mighty God,
Lord of the earth, and heavens, and seas.
I thank thy sovereign power and love,
That crowns my doctrine with success;
And makes the babes in knowledge
learn
The heights, and breadths,
and lengths of grace.
But all this glory lies concealed
From men of prudence and of wit;
The prince of darkness blinds their eyes,
And their own pride
resists the light.
Father, 'tis thus, because thy will
Chose and ordained it should be so;
T'is thy delight t'abase the proud,
And lay the haughty scorner low.
There's none can know the Father right
But those who learn it from the Son;
Nor can the Son be well received,
But where the Father
makes him known."
Then let our souls adore our God
That deals his graces as he please,
Nor gives to mortals an account
Or of his actions, or decrees.
