RHWNG CALFIN AC ARMIN: sef Dull o gynghor rhag Dadleu crefyddol ac Eiddigedd pleidiol, yn enwedig yn mhlith y Cymry. Clywais ddadlau dau un dydd Cryfion rhwng pleidiau crefydd; Nid o gariad, eithr brad bron; Nid am ras, ond ymryson; Un Paul a'r llall Apolos, Ail deillion yn eigion nos: Llac ar fodd, lliw crefyddol, Plisg plaid, a'r enaid ar ol; Dal ar fanus wagus wedd Bras olwg heibio'r sylwedd. Taeru Calfin o'i fin fod Tân Armin un tu'n ormod; Eb'r Armin "barn brin heb wres Yw Calfiniaeth, cul fynwes;" Felly'r byd dwys enbyd sydd A golwg croes i'w gilydd; Gwenwyn oergan un arall Yn ei wydd i'w llwydd y llall; "Nyni, - a ni" - medd y naill, "Na - modd oer - ni" medd eraill; Mae gwendid plegid pob plaid Mawr iawn yn amryw enaid; Ni fu gynt mwy na'r hynt hon Nemawr ras mewn ymryson; Ein hunain ddaw i'n hwyneb, Bai arnom ni barn am neb; Nid ar ras mae'r dyryswaith Am Armin na Chalfin chwaith; Mae achos rhag mwy ochain, Tybio'r wyf, fyn'd heibio'r rhain; T'wysen ni chaed dewisol Heb fanus a'i hus o'i hol, O herwydd mae'n ddihareb "Onid Duw Naf nid da neb." Crist yw'r nôd sy'n bod heb wyll, A'i air genym yw'r ganwyll, Gwiw chwiliwn rhag uchelwae I'n mysg ac o'n mewn y mae, Hwn air yn deg fynega O bwys i ddyn be' sy dda, Sef byw'n ol barn noethfarn Ner, A 'mostwng i'w rymusder. Cawn drwy'r gair, purair heb bell, Duw'n bur ac nid neb arall; Ffordd yw'r Ion a'r gwirionedd, Yspryd a bywyd o'r bedd; O'n brodyr pam gwnawn brydiad Am ben tyst gan mai byw'n Tad; Uwch Armin a Chalfini Gair Duw nef a gredwn ni, Meirw ynt hwy, darfu'u dwydaith, A byw yw'r Gwr biau'r gwaith; Aed â'i waith, yn berffaith b'o, Amen, y ffordd y myno.

BETWEEN CALVIN AND ARMINIUS: that is A means of counselling against religious Argument and partisan Jealousy, especially among the Welsh. I heard two arguing one day Strong ones between religious parties; Not from love, but almost betrayal; Not for grace, but strife; One Paul and the other Apollos, Like blind men in the depth of night: Slack on means, with a religious tinge, A partisan husk, with the soul left behind; A hold upon a countenance of hollow chaff A coarse look past the substance. Calvin insisting from his lip that The fire of Arminius on one side be too much; Says Arminius, "Judgment with scarcely any warmth Is Calvinism, a narrow bosom;" Thus there is an extremely intense world And a cross look at each other; Cold poison by one other Appears as success to the other; "There we are!" - says the one, "No - a cold manner - not at all!" say others; There is an evident weakness by every party Very great in several souls; Never was there greater than in this course A lack of grace in strife; To our own faces it shall come That we are at fault to judge anyone; Not on grace is the confusion About Arminius or Calvin either; There is a case lest there be any more moaning, I suppose, to pass these by: The choice ear is not got Without husk and its chaff left behind it, Because there is a proverb "Without the Lord God there is no good for anyone." Crist is the goal that there is without deception, And his word that we have is the candle, Worthily let us search it against high woe, Amongst us and within us it is; This word is a fair expression Of importance to man what is good, That is, to live according to the Lord's naked judgment, And submit to his power. Let us get through the word, a pure word without fail, God is pure and none other; A way is the Lord and the truth, Spirit and life from the grave; Of our brothers why do we make verse About a chief witness, wince it is our Father who lives: Above Arminius and Calvin 'Tis the word of God that we believe, Dead are they, their journeys ended, And living is the Man whose work it is; May he take his work, perfect may it be, Amen, the way he wills. tr. 2025 Richard B Gillion |
