Winter '97

Ordinary day. Waiting at a red light. And a stranger perked up my mood. Because perched on the top of a car in the cross-traffic turning toward me was the upper half of a snowman. Detailed snowman. The entire upper half. I was so flabbergasted I didn't even notice what kind of vehicle it was, I just sat there and laughed. Whenever I think about it, I still feel bubbles of joyous laughter inside and wonder--did the owner of the car build the snowman himself, or was it a surprise gift from a friend. I'd like to meet the person who thought of it. What an inventive mind!

I hope no one tells my Airedale that apples don't come with a bite missing.

Along with implementing Daylight Savings Time, another rule needs to go into effect. Something along the lines of not being expected to get up in the mornings before light-activated yard lights turn off!

Handy things, pop-top cans. Until you consider flipping up that ring punches down part of the top, which has touched Lord-knows-what, into what you're going to drink. And if we take that thought a step further, if you're drinking straight from the can rather than pouring the drink into a glass--no, I suppose we better not take that next step and think about you putting your mouth against that top which has touched...

The mind works in mysterious ways. 26 hours into trying to heave my insides out and begging for each next shot of morphine during an emergency hospital stay, I remembered to cancel a hair appointment.

And on a more serious note, it's sobering to think that the prosaic, yet excrutiatingly painful, gallstones which kept me in the hospital a few days were probably a life-threatening matter in a different era.

I've never paid much attention to my horoscope, but judging by the AOL synopsis of the Leo personality a friend gave me...whoa!..perhaps I should. It had me so dead-on, it was spooky. Hmmm, that means if I want to be properly adored, I should be in search of a Libra, Sagittarius, or Gemini.

Does it mean you eat pizza too often if you realize not only do you recognize the scent of pizza, but you can tell from the aroma which pizzeria it came from?
