Lisa's Weight Loss Surgery Journal

October 2, 2000
Hi there! Just wanted to take a quick minute to thank those of you leaving me such nice notes in my guest book! :) Sharon - sorry I wasn't home when you called! I'd love to talk with you! Lizton is just down the road from where I live! :)
Wellll... I'm doing just fine... went to see Dr. Inman last week. I asked her if I would have to be on this medicine forever! (I am taking Aciphex and Reglan for the reflux problem). She kind of chuckled at me, and told me that it "should" resolve. I must say - it IS lots better now. However, today I ate almost an entire 6 inch subway club sandwich! OINK! I guess it wasn't "too" bad... lots of protein in the chicken, roast beef and ham. I had it dressed with lettuce, oil and vinegar, pickles and mayonnaise, and it was scrumptious! Took me about an hour to finish it, and boy was it good. Some days I can eat lots like that and it doesn't bother me (although I don't usually ALLOW MYSELF to eat like that) and other days I can barely get down 4-5 bites of meal. Go figure!
Weight seems to be staying the same right now - 235#. 76# gone! Yesssss!!!! So I guess I'm plateauing. I'm sure it doesn't help to eat Subways! So, I'll concentrate on water, protein, and walking and increase them and get things moving again. I'm not too worried! (yet!)
Hey, I was at Wal Mart over the weekend, and they had a display of rings out on the floor - really pretty ones - and I could actually fit into some of them! OK, they were size 11's, but they must have been very small 11's because my size 10 1/2 wedding ring is getting loose! It made me feel so good. I might just go back and buy one tonight on my way home.
Bob and I will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary next Tuesday, 10/10! I love the fall... this is my favorite time of the year! I just LOVE the smell of woodsmoke in the air, the pumkins and indian corn for sale everywhere, hot apple cider and cocoa being sold, hayrides, haunted houses, apple orchard visits, craft shows, walking through the woods wearing blue jeans and cozy sweaters, with the leaves crisping underfoot...! Love it, love it, love it. I am in my element!
We got some bad news about Bob's Mom last week... turns out she does indeed have lung cancer. It has spread to her lungs and lymph nodes, and the doctors have said that it is just "a matter of months". There is nothing they can do to stop it or slow it down, unfortunately. Bob is absolutely beside himself! I feel so bad for him. I wish I could take that hurt away! But I know I can't. All I can do is be there for him.
My good news of the day is that I had one week's vacation "reinstated" at work! This was because I went over 160 days of disability, all together. How very cool! I couldn't be more thrilled. I would really like to have a day left at the end of the year, for the first time ever!
So, all in all, I'm feeling pretty good, all things considered. I have noticed lately that my butt and lower back hurts after I've been sitting awhile! One of the girls on the "MillenniumBobs" list (hi Jamie babe!) said it's "Boney Butt Syndrome"! LOL! Who'd have thought my butt would ever be boney!

Hello!
Today is Bob's and my second wedding anniversary. He is so sweet... he came into the bedroom this morning with a dozen peach roses (my favorite) and a very sweet card. I wish I could have stayed home today and snuggled up with him all day, but nope!
Well - that plateau that I was on seems to have broken! I weighed in at 234 this morning, and I know for a fact that the huge heavy sweater I'm wearing weighs at least a pound or two! LOL! So, I think my official loss at this point is 78#! Yaaaaaayyyy! Won't be long at all 'til I'm in the -100 club! They even give us a T-shirt for that at my surgeon's office! :)
I tried on this pair of size 20 AVERAGE jeans that I have been trying on every few weeks... I got them on, laid down on my bed, and actually got them buttoned! They were way too tight, but I got them on! How COOL! So it won't be long before I'm fitting comfortably into a size 20, and then - ta dah! Maybe an 18! I can't wait to be out of clothes that start with a "2"! I'm rapidly outgrowing my 24's... I gave my Mom a big bag full of stuff this past weekend. And, I bought some new undies that were several sizes smaller and fit soooo much better - so I'm no longer known as "droopy draws" around the house! Funny how something as minor as new underwear can make you feel so much better.
Lots of stressful stuff going on. Bob's Mom is pretty much in denial about the terminal nature of her illness, still. She just doesn't get it. They were going to do chemotherapy on her yesterday, but when she went to have the treatment, she complained so much about the fact of losing her hair that the docs decided it would be less traumatic for her to NOT have any treatment. They think she will have a better quality of life, for a longer period of time, without the treatment. If she takes the treatment, she will be freaked out about losing her hair, and get even more depressed. SO... we're just waiting. Bob is beside himself, still, and I don't blame him. I've been through this before, and I know what's coming... I know it's not going to be easy.
My daughter pulled a good one. She got caught "helping" to pierce a boy's ear in the cafeteria last Thursday, and she got suspended from school for two days! I stayed home to make sure she worked her little butt off and didn't get on the phone or computer. She was really good, and got her room cleaned up pretty well. She's going to have three friends spending the night this Friday... Calgon, take me away! :):)
I think that's all the news for now. I'll be back!

Hello!
Big development... I lost about 7# in the last six days! I weighed in this morning at 226 - which is a total of 85# lost! And, I took measurements a few days ago, and I've lost about 75 inches all together! I just can't believe it! That 100# by Christmas goal seems so much more do-able now!
I tried a new protein supplement from VitaLady.com - it is a fruity-tasting product, like Crystal Lite, rather than a chocolate, vanilla, etc. "shake" type thing! Yummy! There are two flavors - Grape and Tropical Punch. I liked the Grape one. I'm going to have to save up my pennies and order a big container of it!
We spent the weekend at the "Feast of the Hunter's Moon", which is a really awesome reenactment of 17th century life at Ft. Ouiatenon. They have camps set up, lots of people walking around dressed in authentic dress (Indians, French Voyageurs, Pioneers, etc.). We walked for MILES, and my back never did hurt! :) We sampled all kinds of yummy goodies. It was so nice to be able to get out and do something like that - it has been waaaaay too long!

Hi! Well... I gained back 5#, then lost most of it again (water retention?) so I'm still looking at about an 85# weight loss so far. Not too shabby! I am truly a new person. I know I can do better w/my diet. I'm trying to add in more protein and get more exercise... so hopefully I'll be able to report a 100# loss by Christmas! That's the goal!
I've had another little setback with the reflux problem. I'll be going in for yet another endoscopy on Monday, November 6th. I'll bet they're going to want to do surgery to correct that darn lower esophageal sphincter, which is open ALL the time. They suspect I had this before surgery - so please, if you are a pre-op person reading about my problems with this, please don't think it's going to happen to you! I'm kind of a weird case, I guess. I'm feeling just great, otherwise! I'm literally walking circles around my husband these days. He's starting to consider maybe doing the surgery himself (I hope, I hope!) someday. But right now, he's got enough to worry about.
Things have been going pretty good at home and at work. My boss has been quite nice about the time I've had to take off lately (hmmmm, could mean he's up to no good! LOL).
Looks like I'll be getting some new birds before long! I'm going to adopt a pair of Musk Lorikeets from the zoo, and I'm going to be adopting a male Umbrella Cockatoo from a family in Illinois. I'll have to take some pictures soon and update my animal pages!
This weekend, we watched the TV news spot I did a couple of months before my surgery. Wow... I remember thinking I looked pretty good in that interview, but OH WOW! Do I ever look different, now! I kept telling my husband that I didn't see all that much difference in myself - but now I do! We took some pictures of me this weekend, with Meghan (sheltie)... hopefully they came out pretty good and I can get them posted on here.
Not much else to report, really... I'm just hanging in there, trying to get by day by day! Just like everyone else! My darn email is still down, which is KILLING MEEEEE!! :) So if anyone wants to email me, my new email is: Mamafeathers@yahoo.com
Happy Losing! Talk to you soon!
