The first two stories are about
some visiting "Hobos", which is what
men were called that did not have jobs,
and would travel the roads, stopping in towns
and at houses to beg for food.
Many people wouldn't give them any food,
or even talk to them. But when they found
a nice family that would give them a meal,
they would make a little carving on
the front fence post of the house. The carving
was usually of a cat, or a cat's face.
This was a sign to let other Hobos know that
a kind lady lived there and would give them food.
Listening to her stories helps me
learn about history, and makes me really
appreciate everything that I have.
I hope you enjoy them too.
