A "wrong-way" multiplex is when two routes join together, but if you travel in one direction along the multiplex, you are moving in one direction along one route and in the opposite direction along another route. Some examples of this include:
- US20 and IL72 in northern Kane County, along IL47
- US24 and US136 in Fulton County
- IL47 and IL54 at Gibson City
- US150 and IL116 in nothern Tazewell County
For US150 and IL116, for example, if you travel northeasterly along that one single road on which the two routes are multiplexed, you will be going east on IL116 but west on US150 at the same time.
