Hello, my name is Todd Landreth. I have been a diehard Marlin fan since I was 9, which was in 1993, the innagural year.
I have started a petition to bring the classic teal back in the form of an alternate jersey. You might ask yourself "Don't we alrady have an alternate jersey?".
And you'd be right on two counts. We have the home alternate, which is a black pinstripe uniform with just the logo on(Marlin wrapped around an F) on the upper left chest:
We also have the stylish black alternate, with it's sleek silver lettering and barely noticeable teal trim:
The problem with this is, the amount of teams with black alternate jerseys which include:
1.The Kansas City Royals
2.The Pittsburgh Pirates
3.The New York Mets
4.The Arizona Diamondbacks
5.The Colorado Rockies
6.The Baltimore Orioles
7.The Toronto Bluejays
8.The Chicago Whitesox
It's hard to stand out in a pack when 8 other teams feature an alternative jersey the same color as ours.
Another problem is, there is little to distinguish our Spring Training/batting practice uniforms from our black alternate:
Do you see what I am getting at?
We need something truly unique, to go along with our truly unique franchise.
We play in a massive stadium that when built, was built for football only with the option of possibly using it for exhibition baseball.
We are unique that in only 13 years of existance we have amassed 2 World Series championships, second only to The New York Yankees in that timeframe.
We are unique in the fact that we have never won the division, yet drove to the World Series both times through the wildcard.
We are also unique in the fact that we were the first Wild Card team to win the World Series.
In 2003, we beat the Yankees and their payroll, which eclisped ours by nearly $150 million.
The list of things that make this team so special goes on and on, and we need something to really showcase that special aura that surrounds this team.
It's time to quit hiding the teal behind the black and silver, because black and silver was not what this team was founded on.
It was founded in teal, and no matter how much that teal is downplayed, it will remain. Give us this:
