The ears the DXM 1.5 are required to import and translate real time sound bytes. A robot will never understand and learn to interact with human beings if it cannot hear sounds bytes. It can pick up vibrations created by the mouth, and piece together most of a sentance without proper hearing, however it's defenitly requested for optimal performance. If configured properly, the ears will be able to pick up on remote sounds up to 300 kilometers away.
