Ororo pushed her hair from her face as she faced her opponent. It was times like these that she tended to wish for shorter hair. But truth be told, Ororo knew that the style that she was most comfortable with was the long flowing locks that she now had.
She raised her hands in the defensive positions as she had been taught. Never taking her eyes from him, she began to look for a weakness. Every fighter had one. It was just a matter of finding it before he found yours. However, before Ororo could decide upon a means of attack, her opponent was already moving. A series of punches was thrown keeping her off balance. And before she knew it, Ororo found herself flat on her back with Logan straddling her.
"O.k. What did you do wrong?" He questioned above her.
"I was not focused on the fight," Ororo answered meekly.
"And not being focused can get you killed."
"Logan, if this had been a real fight, I would have been focused." Ororo commented.
Logan brushed a stray piece of hair from her face. "You wanna talk about it?"
Ororo blushed. "Actually, I was trying to decide which hairstyle best suited me."
Logan laughed as he stood up and offered Ororo his hand. "I like it long."
"What is it about men and long hair?" Ororo asked as Logan handed her a towel.
"Hell, I don't know. Long hair is just…." He paused searching for the right words.. "sexy."
"So you think that I'm sexy," Ororo teased as she gave her long tresses a shake causing them tumble around her brown, oval shaped face.
Logan arched a brow at Storm. "Fishing for comments, 'Ro?"
"A girl has to do what she can to get compliments around here," Ororo answered ignoring the fact that he was still calling her 'Ro even though he knew that she hated it.
"What's that suppose to mean?"
Ororo moved closer to him until she was standing only inches apart from him. "Let's see. The first time you were here, you barely acknowledged my presence."
She placed her hand over Logan's mouth to keep him from interrupting. "Since your return, you're either arguing with Scott, lusting after Jean, or helping the children. I don't think my ego can take much more of this."
"I noticed you," Logan argued weakly. Standing this close to her was playing havoc with his body.
Ororo crossed her arms. "Really?"
"Sure I did. I'd have to be blind to miss you. I mean, how many black women do you know with white hair?" Logan joked hoping that she wouldn't notice the effect she was having on him.
"Just for that, I'm telling Scott it was you who put the empty milk container back in the refrigerator."
"Hey, you busy?"
Professor Charles Xavier smiled as he looked up from the report that he was working on. "Actually, I could use a break." He watched as Logan dropped in the chair in front of him. "So how are you adjusting to being back here?" The Professor finally asked when it seemed that Logan was uncomfortable with starting the conversation.
"Fine," was the monotone reply.
"And how are your Self-Defense classes going?"
"Great."
"Ororo tells me that your class is by far the favorite among the students." Professor Xavier commented.
However, he only received a grunt from Logan. "Logan, Is something bothering you?" Professor Xavier asked inside of Logan's mind. "Is it what you discovered in Canada?" Logan frowned as Xavier's voice echoed in his head. "I hate it when you do that, Chuck." "Logan?" Charles prompted.
"It's Ororo."
"Ororo?" The Professor asked clearly confused by Logan's answer.
"She's beautiful, smart, and sexy as hell," Logan answered grumpily.
"Yes, Ororo is very special. However, I thought your interests laid with Jean?"
"Jean? Don't get me wrong. I still think that she's too hot for the Boy Scout. But lately I can't seem to get 'Ro out of my mind. And it's not just physical. Even her voice makes me…" He trailed off embarrassed that he had revealed so much.
"You should tell her how you feel?"
Logan stood up and began to pace around the office. "I can't. I mean, what do I say to her. 'Sorry I was such an ass before.' Plus she'll probably think that I'm just after her because I can't get Jean. Hell, I've pretty much ignored her the first time I was here." "That was a difficult time, Logan. We were dealing with Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants. Emotions were running high. Besides, Ororo is very understanding."
"You think I should tell her?"
Charles smiled. "I think that you should follow your heart."
"Ya know if I was the enemy, you'd be dead by now."
Ororo created a tiny cloud to water the rows of flowers she had just planted. "Perhaps, but then I have a great Self-Defense teacher." She turned and gave Logan a dazzling smile. "I'm pretty good if I do say so myself."
"Still, you should be more careful out here," Logan commented as he looked around the secluded garden.
"Why Logan, if I didn't know better I'd think that you were concerned." She stood up and pulled off her gloves.
He moved closer and took her face in his hand tilting her face so that he could look her in the eyes. "I am concerned."
Ororo nervously licked her lips. "I'm getting dirt all over you."
Logan leaned closer. "What's a little dirt between friends?" He whispered.
"Logan, …" Ororo began.
"I did notice you. I noticed the way you smile when I call you 'Ro even though you claim to hate it."
"I do…"
"I noticed the way you always smell like sandalwood." Logan interrupted. "I noticed the small birthmark right here." As he placed a kiss on the tiny mark above her collarbone, he smiled to himself. Between her racing heartbeat and the way she was trembling with anticipation, he knew that he wasn't the only one being affected by this. "I noticed that no matter how late you stay up, you always sit on the roof to watch the sunrise. And I've noticed that when you're happy, you hum to yourself." He leaned even closer to her until their mouths were only a few inches apart. "Notice anything about me?"
"You mean other than the fact that you're stubborn, quick-tempered…"
Before she could finish, he closed the distance between them and kissed her. "As much as I'd love to spend the night out here with you, I don't want to rush this." He pulled back and ran a finger down her face.
"So what exactly is this?" Ororo asked breathlessly.
"I don't know, but a smart man told me to follow my heart. And it led me to you.
