Mutant Cripple - Part 1

by Silver Eagle

Logan looked down at the tiny bundle in his arms. His newborn daughter stared up at him with wide curious eyes. She looked like any other newborn, chubby and adorable. Logan sighed. He pulled away the blanket and exposed her horribly twisted right leg. Beast had been right. His little girl would never be able to walk. Her leg might even have to be amputated. She would never be normal. Not even a normal mutant.

Then again, there were no normal mutants. They were just mutants. Freaks. Outcasts like him and Ororo. The professor had predicted that their child would be one of the strongest mutants on the planet. The daughter of Storm and Wolverine. She would be a strong and powerful mutant. The professor had high hopes for her.

But what you wanted and what you got were two different things. They had expected a powerful mutant. They got a crippled mutant. Logan sighed again and looked out of the window.

"Thinking about our daughter?" Ororo slowly walked towards him.

"'Ro, what are you doin' here? You should be resting."

"I wanted to talk to you about our daughter." Ororo gazed at the sleeping infant in Logan's arms.

"At least you should sit down." Logan guided her to the bed. They sat down at the edge.

"So how are we gonna handle it?" Logan asked.

"With love and understanding."

"But nobody likes mutants, who the hell is gonna like a crippled mutant?"

"Us. We will love and care for her."

"Professor Xavier won't wanna handicapped kid."

"She's not handicapped. If she can love and bring joy to us, who is there to call her handicapped? The professor won't reject her."

"And I'm gonna love her no matter what."

"So am I. We haven't given her a name yet."

"Hell she's only two hours old. We can give her one now."

"Any suggestions?"
