*Yeah, with her* a part of his mind said to him.
Logan sighed, it was far too late to be thinking along those lines. He walked half asleep to his waiting car. He was close enough to see his reflection when he heard a scream.
Logan looked up, searching. He scanned the parking lot when he saw them. On the other side of the parking lot was an obviously drunken man and the white haired stripper who he had become so enamored with.
The man struck her hard enough to throw her against the car. She stood there stunned, as he groped her body, letting his fingers travel to her most private places. She could feel the fear rise within her. She saw flashes of past situations like this, flashes of memories that she wanted to forget. Finally, she found her voice.
"Stop!!" she cried out. She began to struggle with her assailant only to receive another stinging slap in the face. The woman could taste the blood in her mouth, feel it running down the corners of her lips. The man roughly grabbed her hair and threw her face first onto the trunk of her car, causing more blood to spatter on the hood. He took her arms and held them behind her with one hand and lifted her skirt with the other.
She could feel his throbbing erection pressing against her thigh. She could smell the liquor on his breath, she didn't have to be a genius to figure out what he wanted to do with her.
Suddenly, the pressure on her back was gone. She looked back to see the man from the club, struggling with her attacker on the cold pavement.
As soon as it began, it was over. Her rescuer stood up and faced her.
"Are you alright?" he asked her.
"Yeah, great." she replied sarcastically.
The man was breathing hard after his tussle with the drunkard and stared at her while trying to catch his breath.
"Do you need a ride home?'
"Yeah, like I'm really going to jump into your car when I don't even know you. Maybe you didn't see what just happened."
"Look, I was just trying to be nice. It doesn't look like you'll be getting home in that." he said gesturing to her car. Realization dawned on her when she saw that most of the wires needed to get her car started had been ripped out.
"Shit" she muttered under her breath. "Um, thanks for the offer but, I think that I'll just walk home. It's not that far from here." She turned away from him then quickly turned back. " And by the way, thanks a lot for helping me. My name is Ororo."
"Mine is Logan. Great to meet you." He smiled at her and she noticed how handsome he was in a rugged sort of way.
"Right....well, I guess I'll see you around."
"Hey, Ororo, how `bout I walk you home. It's not safe to be on the streets alone at this time of the night."
"No, it's fine. I'll manage by myself-"
"Let's go" Logan interrupted her.
"So, how long have you lived here?" Logan inquired.
"Long enough to know that it isn't a walk in the park. It's been about five years since I moved here. I used to live in New Jersey until my mentor died. Then I left and came here."
"Wow, I'm sorry about the circumstances. So where are your real parents? Are they around here?"
"I don't know."
"How could you not know-"
"Why are you asking me so many questions. Geez, we just met and you think that you need to know everything about me!"
"Sorry..... I didn't mean to pry."
"Don't worry about it. Here's my place. Thanks for walking me and goodnight." Ororo disappeared inside the doors into the foyer of her condo complex.
